front of a store at like 6 am? Iirc those things might be a thing of the past as stores won't do that anymore.

Yeah, I did it as a kid with my dad for Best Buy once or twice. Wouldn't recommend it.

was it a tv ? yeah maybe best buy was the biggest store that did this. The greatest number of people? prob not as much anymore.

I did it for big items a few times but I'm not consistently doing it and not for just "random door busters" at a fucking Walmart or something.

Yeah, once or twice. Not worth it.

Did this at Circuit City, Target, Toys R Us, Frys Electronics, Mervys, and Robinsons May as a kid. Funny how most of those stores dont exist any more.

I'm really entertaining the idea of buying something this year though.

My family would go out after Thanksgiving to the stores just to people watch. I don't remember anybody ever actually making a purchase when we did, we just wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

That's not a thing anymore thankfully.

I remember when I used to go with either of my parents back in 1998-2013 or so when they opened at 3-4am and not a lot of people would be around and we could get things fairly easy. Usually went to Sears for clothes and then Toys R Us for games and Best Buy for movies

My grandparents lived close to an area that was well known throughout the region for its retail shopping outlets. It was hard to miss the sheer amount of traffic and activity throughout the area on black Friday and not get curious. Driving and walking around was just a fun after dinner distraction.

Yes a few times, mainly for Lowes/HD tool related deals, i would say the best tool deal was a 12" double bevel sliding miter saw that was $200 off & a free collapsible stand w/ wheels for mobility. I still use it often so it was a worthwhile purchase.

Waited outside at least over night for when the PS2 launch & PS3 launch. On the PS3 launch the news interviewed us. It was an experience to say the least.

Yes, but not for Black Friday. Did it for Boxing Day. 5 in the morning for Future Shop.

Yep. I waited in a 4 hour line at Best Buy on Black Friday to buy something that wasn't on sale and I could have just bought the next morning.
I was bored and didn't have anything else to do that day.

Yeah, December 26th. At one point before we adopted Black Friday, we used to have our yearly sales the 27th until the following week. We've since adopted Black Friday, though we still have some sales on during Boxing week.

Did you have a tent like some people at best buy? Prob those huge best buy black friday days are a thing of the past. Isn't best buy really struggling?

Yeah I've done it a couple times with my family and a few times with various girlfriends and their families

It's honestly not even fun if you don't have something big to buy.

I only got there 4 hours before they opened, so I was near the end of the line. The line wrapped around the store by the time I got there. The early/tent people started arriving around 3 days before opening.

In my day we camped overnight! Right after Thanksgiving dinner a friend and I would grab a tent, some chairs, and a cooler full of beer soda and we'd usually be first or second in line at Best Buy.
Good times
I even got interviewed by the local news one time

I never waited for the doors to open but I went to Best Buy at like 6am one year. That was the year I bought a PS3 at the end of that gen since I never had one, so probably 2013.

yeah that did happen berfore. iirc it hasn't happened in yrs though

I only went twice, the first time I went to Best Buy and when I got there the line was already around the building. As I was walking up I overheard a conversation a couple of women were having with an employee complaining about people cutting the line and the employee was like "there's nothing we can do about it" so I thought "hmmmmmm" and then I went and cut the line all the way in the front.

The second time I went to a store that I knew nobody would be at and all I wanted was a washer and dryer and I didn't go early I was there like 30 minutes before opening. There was still like 20 people in line which I thought was surprising.

i don't participate in waiting in a front of the store thing.

i'm out of shape and wouldn't have much of a chance against others who want the same thing.

already planned out my tv purchase and additions to the ps5.
supposed to be a nicer tv than my old one (that's all that matters).

It was FREEZING that night.

The ride home the next day was one I'll never forget.

I don't wait in line for hours to shop. I did go once and it was super crowded, but there was no gladiatorial bloodshed. People behaved themselves. Made me wonder if the Black Friday crush is blown out of proportion?

We sorta did it once, we didn't stand in line, but did arrive like 30 minutes after the carnage. It was like a damn warzone and all we got there for was to pick up Razer scooters when they had recently come back or whatever.

Only other time we did something like that was when I got 'recruited' by my cousin to stand in the food section to get a TV for my grandmother. I don't really care for it over all, but I don't mind the scraps.

Almost did that at Best Buy once. Saw the line wrapping all of the way around the store and declined to stay. I later read that armed individuals had robbed people in the line.

The idea has always seemed so weird. I've never seen a deal good enough to even splurge on Black Friday, let alone actually do the weird early morning store ritual.

I used to a long time ago. I waited at a Sam's Club from about 2AM to opening time for a cell phone

I did it around 2012 at Target just for fun with my partner. There was a line but it wasn't anything crazy. When they opened, we calmly walked around and I thought the deals didn't even match what I could buy on Amazon normally, except the TVs were a little cheaper. Left unimpressed and never thought about doing it again.

Nope, rather spend that time hanging out with my family and friends than behaving like a animal at a retail store for black friday.
