What are you talking about the link fits just fine.

Sometimes a link will work and sometimes it won't. I've never understood what triggers it. Like the same link. Only thing I've noticed is quoting someone can affect it.

You can't post a link immediately after a quote. You have to stick some useless text in between.

And then Netflix goes out of business.
You think so? After the most recent price hike and ending of password sharong, the end result was finishing the quarter with the most active subscriptions in the companies history.

What we are witnessing now is the most basic of supply and demand metrics at work, as they continue zeroing in on the breakpoint for prices. Thats not a sign of a company about to go out of business thats the sign of a company at the top of the market, and using that market share to make money hand over fist.

I'm seriously thinking of setting up my own. How hard is it to set up? And do most streaming devices have a plex app in your experience?
It depends.

Easy to set up if you use a spare windows PC, but for a PC that you leave on 24/7 its not very efficient.

I went with the unraid route and built a NAS with it, then installed the plex docker on unraid. This is much harder, but youtube has many guides that explains step by step on how to do it.

Yeah that sounds a bit over my head but something I could figure out. I need to try it from my PC before I go all in to see if it's something I like. You found it worth the time though?

Trying is the first step towards failure, so just dont give it a shot and you cant dissapoint.

It is 100%. It serves as my main storage box for everything. The PC I built was from cheap parts totaling $600 4-5 years ago and it still runs 24/7. Running unraid as a personal NAS and Plex server, is not only safe but also very convenient as it is connected to your own home network and accessible anytime when you are home on multiple PCs. If you want remote access, that's more complicated.

Unraid also allows mixing drive sizes so you can slap a bunch of drives on it that you have lying around, and the parity drive can help rebuild your NAS should one drive die.

When I first built mine, it took a lot of research and watching guides but I managed to figure it out. It was honestly one of my biggest achievements and still proud of it till this day.

But reports are showing the exact opposite.

Subscription numbers are up, even with the price hikes.

Some people unsubscribe. Others subscribe in their place. I unsubscribed because of that password sharing crackdown despite being a subscriber since 2016 or 2017. I will never subscribe to them again.

Setting up plex on unraid, this is the closest to the original guide I watched 5 years ago. When you set up the movies and TV folders, can be done when you go into your nas anyway and don't have to use the command line.

Setting up unraid. Can watch up to 14:00 mark the rest is complicated stuff that you don't need

I wonder who the big brain is going to be that will accumulate all of these streaming services and put them all in one easy package, at a discounted price... you know like how Cable used to be. We're going to go back in circles again.

But, at least the way the numbers are looking, for every person like you that unsubscribed because of password sharing, there was 1.25 people that either created their own account or upgraded their old account to add a second "home" location.

At a higher charge, of course.

Disney.

Eventually everyone will just have Disney Live Streaming that has everything.

It will be available everywhere but Florida, where DeSantis will force the people of Florida to trade old VHS tapes of anything they want to watch.

The bigger question is are the new the subscribers going to be long term subscribers? Or are they going to drop it after a couple months when they watch what they want.

From what I'm reading, a lot of the new subscribers are boomer and GenX parents that were sharing with their kids that no longer live with them, or splitting it with a friend/sibling.

100% the kind of subscriber that has had a gym membership for a decade despite not going into the gym since they signed up.

They aren't going anywhere.

Pretty sure all what happened from forcing no password sharing was that people that didnt get free Netflix anymore went out and got Netflix themselves. Not everyone, sure, but enough

I remember when Netflix was the only good streaming service, prices were super cheap, and they had pretty much everything on it.

Then they lost the Disney stuff
Then they lost The Office
Then they cut sharing
Then they raised the price every few months.

And now there are like 5 other big streaming services, with like one thing worth watching on each, which all used to be on Netflix.
