Current Events > Save states and a fast forward feature is the best QoL for old ported games.

Literally every old game should be re-released with these two simple features and the gaming world would be at a much better place.

A lot of games would be better if they had a fast forward to skip through the pointless filler animations in them

I don't know that I could have played the original FF7 without a fast forward.

I'm sure we'll have folks who will say people who use them didn't really beat the game.

I'm torn. While I love them, both features make a lot of earlier games just trivial. Went through Final Fantasy 6 and stuff like auto battle and fast forward just destroys everything once you input initial commands.

I know for a fact I couldn't. I couldn't play any of the old PS1 RPGs without it. You guys talk about how great games like Legend of the Dragoon is but that shit is fucking slow as fuck right now. You NEED a fast forward.

Or without the rewind feature so you can go back and try again every time you fuck up an attack input. Anyone who beat the original PS version of that game has my eternal respect.

6th-gen JRPGs have taken years off of our collective lives with their 10-second attack animations

It's the only way I can really go back and play some of the old stuff. I never minded grinding in an RPG when I was younger, but if I play an old RPG nowadays I get a little frustrated because it's such a time sink and I'm an adult now. Fast forward is great for this.

Honestly, it was the only way my first pokemon game (Fire Red) was playable. The battle speed is excruciating.

I'm for re-releases of old games letting you be as much of a purist as you want to be. If you want the original experience with nothing changed you should be able to have that, but if you want modern QoL features you should be able to have that as well.

Pokemon is great with the fast forward option. I couldn't play one without it now. Cuts out so much of the time sink while still being fun.

Right. People who want to be purists can just not use them and those who want to can. Everyone wins.

Rewind options are also a handy relatively new feature.

I would never have finished FE: Blazing Sword & Sacred Stones without save states.

Fast forward is a life saver in Ps2 Ncaa games while simming.

I basically had to have that if I wanted to have any chance of using Albert.

it doesnt feel the same. for example: rondo of blood.

if i play it on my duo-r, it feels like an authentic experience than if i played requiem on my PS5.

i feel like save states hold your hand because why wouldnt you want to replay the same area without returning to the beginning of the level?

That's a nice accessory, but random battles give so little money it'll take hours getting enough to buy one.

I'd probably just cheat them in if I was replaying the game. I was never great at additions, my reflexes are even slower now, and emulation and modern displays have worse input lag than the CRT TVs it was designed for.

Yeah, save states make The Tick playable.

What genius thought making a beat 'em up with 44 levels and password system a good idea? Seriously it takes over three hours to beat the game in one sitting.

Fun fact: The Tick was made by Software Creations and was released the same year Maximum Carnage which is a much, much better game.

Same. I used a game shark to get enough money to buy one for everyone.

I only use Save States as a backup or alternative save file.
