i genuinely dont know what exists or how to search for it. ive been a desk monkey for 8 years now at a couple insurance companies, whole industry is soul crushing tbh. and the phone calls, god, the phone calls all day every day

i make a lil over 50k usd (which i consider extremely fortunate even tho its not enough for me to get financial independence)

ill even take like, vague pointing in any direction if u got it. im willin to try hard here

The trick is to own the business. Don't work for others or you will be a wage slave for sure.

Look for any trainee job in a number of fields. We have hired many trainees over the years at my job (I work at a power plant and we produce steam and electricity) because we cant get experienced candidates.

Also if youre willing to relocate you might want to consider going to a better cost of living area if you cant even achieve financial independence at 50K a year. Where Im at in the Midwest you could easily buy a decent house and live comfortably on that no problem at all.

gonna try this trainee thing, thats a good tip

unfortunately just up and moving is costly, and it would be unwise for me to uproot without having work lined up wherever id be moving to

however i will likely be moving to another very expensive state/city next year >_>

(but i will be moving in with my partner so it will definitely be more feasible)

My recommendation would be to look into government work, but I'm only familiar with my state, California, so I can't give any specific recommendations.

But as an example, working for the State of California, we have a position called Staff Services Analyst (SSA). You meet the requirements for it:

Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade; and

Four years of experience performing analytical, technical, clerical, and/or customer service duties. Academic education from an accredited college/university may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

And range C starts at $55k and caps at $68k. And from there, you're able to promote further, depending on what direction you want to go.

I say all of that to say, look into working for the government for your state. Plenty of positions that let you substitute education requirements with job experience, so you can keep moving up once you get in.

If you're willing to study a bunch for certifications, tech is a great field to go into. I'm a college dropout, but started getting Cisco certifications back in 2013. I became a network engineer and have had a steady well paying career for about 9 years now.

but what youre saying is probably good advice all the same, hope im not coming across as shooting u down

Try for something more hands on an niche.

Landscaping isn't really niche and not worth it unless you're running your own business.. occasionally you can get a sweet gig at college or school and get those perks. A college work schedule, real benefits, occasionally free schooling.

If you got a pickup, you can be a trash pickup/cleaner/hoarder helper in a matter of minutes. Can be very lucrative and thetax benefits along with a W2 job can be killer

Trades are going to be a gold mine if you do your time or get into a rad apprenticeship. Lots of grants out there that will pay for you to go to school as well

Oh bummer. Because another suggestion I was going to make was looking into becoming a water treatment operator or a wastewater treatment operator.

They hardly have any public interaction, because their job is to work at the plant that cleans water. The downside though, is that in order to get the certification, you have to pass an exam showing that you know how to calculate how much water is in a cylindrical tank, how much water is going through pipes, how much chlorine you need, in parts per million (ppm), etc. Basically it's a very math heavy exam. They start a little lower than your current salary (46k), but it's a career that can reach 6 figures if you promote.
