Smallville 10/29/23 6:28:48 AM #1: |
Like at the time they were airing, which got higher ratings? iirc both shows were number one in the rankings or ratings for at least several years in the u.s. Have heard some people say that , friends took seinfeld's old time slot and would never have gotten so popular had seinfeld never aired. Iirc The main friends actors even got paid a lot more than the main seinfeld actors over the course of their shows.

Seinfeld
Most watched episode of Friends was the one with the lead of the Superbowl at like 50 million viewers. Most watched episode of Seinfeld was the finale at like 75 million. Even with outliers like this, Seinfeld still had a few million more people watching it every week. Iirc Seinfeld was at like 27 and Friends was at 23. --- I don't believe in belts. Smallville was one show where i didn't get why it wasn't way more popular. Really liked seinfeld but liked smallville way more. It's hard to compare because they were different eras of TV. It's why MASH put up Super Bowl numbers. There were like 4 networks at the time, hell FOX didn't even exist. There were far fewer options in the 90's than the 00's.
I'd say that Friends probably has a larger legacy though. Seinfeld is still beloved by a certain crowd over a certain age, while Friends also going through that currently, it seems to be mostly 20-40 year olds that love Friends, they're still far younger than the Seinfeld crowd, likely because the show aired 8 years later. --- Who cares if Bosa is racist? ...
