...how does the heck does World Series take a back seat to a college football game on their site? A 4-3 team vs a 5-2 team for that matter.

They follow the ratings/clicks.

Evidently, people care less about Game 1 of the World Series than they do an average college football game.

ESPN thinks that people want to see things but they are usually wrong about people actually want to see

Baseball has actively gone out of its way to make sure it's as hard as possible to watch with all their RSN shit, they shouldn't be surprised when people stop caring.

They're more correct about what people want to see than not, based on ratings. MLB ratings are, generally, in the toilet, to the point where other news sources literally wrote articles trying to say "You shouldn't truly care about how bad the ratings are," such as seen here:

https://sports.yahoo.com/world-series-2023-why-you-as-a-baseball-fan-shouldnt-worry-about-the-ratings-for-rangers-diamondbacks-192916676.html

And, as the article I linked says, here's why people don't care about the World Series, case in point:

Now, if you want a good topic of conversation about these two teams, try this: The Rangers and Diamondbacks had a combined .537 regular-season winning percentage. According to OptaStats, thats the lowest winning percentage by the two final teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB in more than 30 years

tl;dr: This is the worst finals, of any major American sports, in over 30 years. It's two barely below par teams slapping at each other.

Alternative theory: the east and west coast media isn't talking about baseball because their precious Yankees didn't make the postseason and the Dodgers got bounced early...again. The lack of media hype is translating to a lack of interest.

No, no conspiracy theories necessary

It's just, literally, that this is an incredibly uninteresting World Series because it's the weakest finals in over 30 years.

In fact, the Yankees haven't been to the World Series since 2009, so your conspiracy theory isn't just wrong, it's hilariously wrong.

It's not a conspiracy theory to say the media is covering this series differently then they would if it was two bigger market teams squaring off. I don't see how that's a contentious statement.

The ratings are tanking because regional sports network nonsense. In a lot of markets you need access to channels like Bally sports to watch games throughout the season. These channels frequently aren't part of things like YouTube TV or Hulu Live and require seperate purchases. It's just harder to watch baseball than it ever had been. Which makes it hard to build up interest throughout the season, so when you get to the playoffs, there just isn't any hype, even though those games are a lot more accessible.

You suggested that they aren't covering it more because it's not one of two SPECIFIC teams.

"They're covering it differently because they're low interest teams" literally says nothing. That's how media works. These two teams don't draw very good ratings, so they're covering them less, accordingly. That's also not the argument you originally made.

They could cover it more, but it wouldn't magically make people watch, because... Not many people are interested in the teams playing. This is one of the biggest "Who cares?" World Series in decades.

If you want to insist the media doesn't care because they don't draw rather than them not drawing because the media doesn't care then I guess we're at an impasse. I'm not saying they'd pull NYY or LAD numbers if the media put more effort into promoting the series than they have, but I refuse to believe the ratings wouldn't be better than they are if they did.

This actually may be a competitive series. Granted say super team slapping around low tier team may draw big initial numbers. A 4 to 5 game World Series doesn't benefit the money machine public at large.

Granted I haven't been watching because eh I just don't sometimes (watched a little Hockey Night in Canada earlier). And while I do care about the Phillies more this isn't 2011 either where I was actually super into them and baseball in general for the first time ever.

You can refuse to believe it, but that's just how it is. The media doesn't just choose to cover a team more because they like the colors or something. They cover things based on what the draw is, and these teams, simply, aren't a draw. This World Series is two teams that didn't even win their own divisions. Hell, the Diamondbacks finished 16 games back, in theirs.
