In california its rare I see a church in my regular commutes. Infact I dont remember the last time I saw one.

I think you're drastically underestimating the amount of churches. I just did a google. My town is just about seven square miles. I counted twenty churches on Google Maps.

Damn you're right, thats annoying. At least I don't see them regularly.

I lived in a small Ohio town during high school and there were literally five churches within a ten minute walking distance of my house, and that was just in the outer area of the main "city" part, not counting the surrounding rural area and all the churches scattered among the stretches of farm land.

This town had a population of under 3000 people.

How many of them are abandoned though? In my area there are lots of old and architecturally beautiful churches, half of which are closed.

This is kind of a non-sequitur, but when I lived in Korea there were far more. I wasnt in a particularly busy area and I was a 5-minute walk away from one and a 10-minute walk from 4 more (probably more than that but I can only think of 4 off the top of my head).

Id sometimes go on night drives during work or end up at the top of hills at night and all you could see in every direction were little neon crosses.

Even when driving through rural parts of the South, you'll go through towns with populations of like 300 and there are still at least 2 Baptist churches and a dollar general.

i never lived in a place where i was more than a 10 minute walk from a church. sometimes, there were 4 or 5 churches within a mile radius

There are at least three churches in a three block radius from my house.

Hate to get all angsty, but they're a significant part of why things are so bad down here. So much hatred and bigotry has come from them and they hold back the south from progressing in general.

This too. Many churches have entire wings dedicated to business stuff. Lots of pastors are pretty "successful" too. They're similar to any other kind of CEO with nice offices, nice cars, lots of golfing, etc.

Pretty much nailed it there.

1 church in a square mile is kinda low, actually.
I live in a Muslim majority country(92%), and we have like 10+ churches in a square kilometre on the cities.

I could see myself living in an abandoned church someday when they are everywhere.

I can't speak for all of California, but there are still tons of churches in Los Angeles. Some of them are right on the middle of residential neighborhoods though, so you won't notice them from main streets.

Well they were built when people didnt have cars so each neighbourhood had their own church within walking distance.

The Midwest has that feature, too. Around St. Louis you can see churches literally next door to churches.

I guess everywhere with a high Hispanic population will have a big number of churches.
