You can. I've known people at work to spray their food. The thing on the label was basically stating you can't go around spraying other people without good reason aka self defense.

Which doesn't apply to me at work. Technically I can spray a inmate if I tell them to do something and they say no. Not worth the paperwork though. Only time I've seen anyone exercise that right at my job is refusing a strip search. Particularly after they where sent up to the holding cell for breaking another rule. Makes you think they have something to hide.

Nobody does that shit here though. As said it's too much paperwork. I'd actually be chewed out if I did it even though it's within policy. Cause the rank don't wanna do paperwork either. We handle things a less aggressive way that doesn't require as much paperwork

But how often are men getting strong arm robbed or sexual assaulted on the street.

men arent really put in situations where someones physically overpowering them.

I just dont see alot of situations as a man youd be better off with a knife or a gun or a taser if youre super nonviolent

I can't speak for martial arts experts but I do know "your wallet isn't worth your life" is common advice. But I'm a bit skeptical of it, since it sends the message that mugging is acceptable behavior society should just roll over for. Having your wallet stolen in most places is a crime that will never be solved, since CCTV cameras don't just float behind your head. It's not as simple as shoplifting ("let them take it, the cops will be knocking on their door in a day or two").

I don't have a clean solution to that problem though. "Give everyone guns" is a terrible idea. "Just be a doormat" is also a terrible idea. Can we meet somewhere in the middle? That's for smarter people than I to determine.

It also doesn't help that a lot of proponents of self-defence take the attitude of "teach the bad guys a lesson!" as opposed to a simple and practical "keep myself safe." As someone who's still going through the justice system, I've come to learn that most people who commit crimes aren't "irredeemable pieces of shit who should rot in prison forever." We are people with lives.

Against a gun perhaps. Even if I ran I'd still spray a dude with a knife I'd I had spray on me.

Some people can disarm people with a gun. You just can't be a idiot and just think you are that good you gotta KNOW you are that good.

Funny story cause dude ended up dying anyways (well not so funny I guess) he utilized his training and disarmed a mugger of his gun but due to his training involving handing the dummy gun back so you can practice it again he handed the gun back and got shot.

It was just built Into his muscle memory to snatch the gun and hand it back. We don't train like that anymore cause of him

That's not to say you don't defend yourself if you have to. But running away also counts as defending yourself. Hiding also counts as defending yourself. If those options aren't viable, and you truly feel like you're going to die if you don't, then by all means fight.

It is not a civilian's job to punish muggers. That's the justice department's job.
