It's minorly bothersome. It doesn't take too much work to remove the character moniker until you're actually supposed to know their name.

In Gog of War Ragnarok when Odin comes to your front door and asks "Do you know who I am?" I fucking do, because it says so in the subtitles!

When a character is speaking Spanish or something and the closed captions subtitles cover up the translated in-show caption with [speaks Spanish].

the best part of Zach Snyder's Justice League was the subtitles confirming [Ancient Lamentation Music Playing] each of the 37 times there was ancient lamentation music playing.

I mean that just sounds like subtitles for the hearing impaired. There's no reason for hearing impaired people to know who a character is before the story reveals it.

Whats wrong with that? Its appropriate for someone who cant hear audio cues. (I havent seen the movie, so maybe Im missing some context here.)

i hate streaming services that treat subtitles and closed captioning as interchangeable.

no i don't give a shit about "wind blows softly".. i just want to read the dialogue.

That is called closed captioning.
The movie had normal subtitles in the cinema, and it had only closed captioning as subtitles on the DVD

Try watching game shows where it gives you the answer.
I've never been a big fan of subtitles except for translations.
