Nordic countries also have some pretty big drawbacks. They are highly xenophobic with immigration policies that are more in-line with Mix than the traditional left.The traditional cuisine is bland at best and vomit triggering at worst. They also have brutal winters and summers where the sun refuses to fuck off. Conscription is also in effect there most notably in Finland. Finally there's a lot of social pressure that frowns on individual achievements to a soul crushing degree at times.

There's a lot to admire about the Nordic countries but a lot to be wary of as well.

Like I dunno, I don't have to be worried about Communists seizing property in the United States because there are no Communists with political power. White nationalism, however, has substantial political representation. Moreover, the "intellegencia" of conservatism signed off on a CPAC speech where a conservative commentator called for the eradication (the exact word) of transgenders.

Obviously in practice far leftism could be materially damaging but it's disorganized and lacks political support. However, you can run for congress or senate and if you're in half of our states you can just say that the holocaust didn't happen or support people who do, or say "white nationalists are patriots," or say the Jews are behind everything, or say that black people are America's problem - and all of that will go unpunished by voters, and allegedly "moderate" colleagues will refuse to censure or expel those individuals.

Maybe this is different if you're from Chile, I don't know, but I'm a white dude in Texas and I'm far more concerned about radicalized right wingers.

In the United States we have such wealth disparity -because- of our tax laws and legalized bribery for wealth donors and lobbyists. - On top of the 40 years of trickle down economics.

This is a sensible post and I understand it, and yes, the alt right is a much more "real", tangible threat, specially in the US, but there is a sizeable, growing number of millenials who think communism is the solution on western countries despite what hitory has told us.

It seems a lot of people want me to be calling Democrats "far left" in order to claim offense on something that isn't about them. If I was in the US I'd be voting democrat too, of course. This isn't about them.

The UK has some decent dishes Mac & cheese, fish & chips and apple pie come from England. Scotland has deep fryed everything. Finally immigrants have brought some good food over there.

The Nordic countries have bland roasts and fermented fish.

The forest and iron resources in Scandinavia are plentiful. But they're on land stolen from natives.

That's true. It's a good reminder when people paint Scandinavia as some special paradise though. It might have great conditions for people living there. But the wealth it has still comes from exploitation, and usually a long history of abusing natives.

nordic countries are great because they focus their energy on improving peoples lives. Also there isn't really a minority to discriminate so don't actively screw themselves over.

In the past decade facist parties have gained power. So they aren't really any better. They just aren't putting energy towards harming others

Which is not true of the Far Right who are aggressively trying to usurp democracy and have been gaining popularity and power for a decade with numerous elected officials and powerful wealthy supporters who have co-opted several aspects of our infastucture.

Mainland Netherlands isnt. We even have one of the biggest gas reserves but dont use it at all. Thats why we pay other countries to destroy their nature and sell it to us, like we do with Canadian forest for our biomass fuel.

I don't think the Dutch were the first people to inhabit what is now The Netherlands.

The Dutch are a mix of many tribes, some of which came here hundreds of thousands of years ago. Others came way later, then there are Germanics mixed in and then Romans came as well. Its extremely muddled but there is no direct we have this land now replacement. We did do that to other places though.

The nitrogen issue is extremely complicated with how it spreads through Europe accounted as well, but yes we are doing that. Its kind of an overstatement to say we have nature in the first place. Lots is just claimed land from the sea, and our actual nature was demolished centuries ago already. We are very utilitarian and everything without buildings or factories must become buildings and factories, most of the nature we have is manmade and needs constant care. We are extremely overpopulated and said nature will disappear soon as well. We are a country that is basically a large city with suburbs inbetween and are projected to become Europes first megacity.
