So they kept his body in morgue for six months without telling his family, despite they know his identity?

I smell some foul play in this.

He was allegedly run over by an off duty officer driving a police SUV and they buried him in a paupers grave. They didnt keep his body in the morgue that long

Yes, not six months long but the article did say it was for months.

Police had known Dexters name, and hers, but failed to contact her, instead letting his body go unclaimed for months in the county morgue.

Why am I not surprised that this happened in the South, to a Black family, and the cops are being protected?

Its rich considering the FBI itself is worse than half the alleged terrorist organisations in the US and can get away with it due to having the backing of the state.

This has mass corruption and cover up written all over it.

They gave the time he was supposedly hit on a "highway" that would take a lot longer for him to walk to from where he left that day.

The veteran investigator lists his name in the report as "Dester" which no one spells that name like that instead of "Dexter".

She called every week for months asking for new info.

Supposedly the day if the accident they called the number they found on a prescription bottle in his pocket....which lists his name number and address on the bottle.....but didn't get a response so they do no follow up.

The phone number matches her boost mobile number that she called every week to ask about her son.

Boost mobile supposedly can't give her records to see if the department called that day they said....implicating they are also complicit in this.

The investigator who had the case this whole time retires informing the mother a new investigator would be assigned.

The new investigator took 2 weeks before contacting the mother to say she "found" her son

They burried him in a penal grave that is for prisoners that died marked only by a number.

The whole thing screams institutional corruption so wide they are all beyond comfortable and complicit in it. The entire department.

The cop who killed her brother was convicted on manslaughter charges and is on appeal, while the mother is also involved in suing the police department for not adequately training officers, etc in connection with the police brutality

Article published July 22, 2023
(Conviction sometime in 2022)

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/mississippi-ag-tries-overturn-jackson-police-manslaughter-conviction-rcna95364

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch asked a judge last week to throw out the officers 2022 conviction, taking his side over the district attorney who prosecuted him. The unusual move strengthened the officers case before the Mississippi Court of Appeals. And it left Wade angry and hurt.

Matthew Steffey, a law professor at Mississippi College, called Fitchs motion extraordinary, not just because she essentially bigfooted Owens, but also because it pits a white Republican attorney general against a Black Democratic district attorney, both of whom are running for re-election this fall.

The dispute, Steffey said, mirrors the political and racial dynamics of an ongoing legal battleover white Republican state officials attempts to assert more control over the justice system in Jackson, the majority-Black and heavily Democratic state capital and the seat of Hinds County.

That's essentially a confession to murder by a cop and "accessory after the fact" by the whole frickin' department. May as well give her a blank check.

These pigs need to go to prison.
