Because Peter made web shooters for his wrists, not his ass. It would be a lot easier to aim and press a trigger with this thumbs than by clenching his butt cheeks.

Also he wouldn't have to web swing upside down.

Don't try to use real spider biology on Spider-Man. It would just become horrifying.
