To me it seems like every few months we get a not-so dire warning that conservatives will squawk and shout about for a while to drum up their weird and confused anti-China rhetoric.

china won't directly attack the US, but i'm sure they'll continue to undermine western democracy as a whole and attempt to shake out an economic victory

winnie is probably making tough calls behind closed doors about how distracted the west needs to be over ukraine and israel before he can stage an attack on taiwan tho

America's geography really IS a blessing in disguise.

We've got Alaska to keep tabs on Russia.
We've Hawaii to keep tabs on Japan/China.
We've got Canada as our helmet
We border three main oceans with a beastin' Navy.
We've got our European bothers to our right keeping tabs on us covering the Atlantic flank
Aaaaaand we've Mexico as our trusty, stand-offish trade ally as our southern cup

Both imnediate neighbors need to act right when and if the time comes because they need us too.

It's gonna cost China way more to strike us to be somewhat effective and they know this. We'll see how this plays out as this year comes to an end.

And it's not just that. The US also imports a lot of goods to China. You can find the yearly trade report. Looking at the 2021 version 8 percent of our exports go to China, and and that includes 23 percent of our machinery and mechanical appliances.

According to the file we our exports to china grew more then their exports to the US.

We need each other, for all the insults the two countries sent toward each other China and the US need each other. Both our economies and consumer base it too big to shut the other out.

Yeah this is it right here. The republicans are at the root of drumming up as much animosity toward China as possible ever since drump started leaning into it because of his racism. China is far from innocent but the republicans keep pushing it toward an out right physical confrontation.

According to that wiki page, China always warns but never actually does anything. The last time China actually mobilized the People's National Army was the Korean war. It's been nearly a century since it's barely did anything. I think ever since the Han people took over the government they've been culturally reluctant to do anything. China's peak was with the Mongolian and Manchurian government, they were fearless back then.

China is basically the gif of the dog barking at another dog through a fence, but then immediately shutting up once the gate opens.

To be honest, from reading it, it just sounds more like fluff than anything else. I'm not really seeing a spot where we need to modernize our military when there's truly no reason to believe it's not.

How much more is needed to be spent on it?

Even more is that I'm not even sure why we're sending things to Taiwan to sucks a degree.

Though as pointed out, it does seem more like postering than anything else.

There's literally a subreddit based around all the "warnings" that China issues everyone. It's gotten to the point where I pay them no heed.

This. I feel like I see these every god damn day.

The thing I think about China is are any Chinese people allowed to be in Militia or join Foreign Legions? I get the feeling like 80% of their military has never been in combat, so I don't know why they do stuff like threaten to go to war. Same thing with North Korea.
