Looks kinda fun but also looks kinda short lived.

That could be pretty much any Japanese game.

Despite its own problems, one of the best games that Game Freak has put out in recent years. It was too late for Scarlet/Violet, but I'm hoping that some of its mechanics make their way into the Gen 10 games.

A fucking blast
Easily the best spin off they've made, and even better than the mainline

I don't really care about graphical stuff unless it's excruciating. I agree a franchise as big as Pokemon should be on top of this but until it's actually ruining the game I'm not gonna care much.

The pokemon catching can be considered grindy if you don't enjoy it, but I loved it. Also there isn't as big a focus on battling as in main games. But it's the only Pokmon game that feels like a complete experience without having to trade and slot with other games or fiddle with weird side mechanics like contests. It's just catching, exploring, battling, and questing.

Aside from some graphical issues, there's a lack of NPC trainer battles; justified due to the lore but it does make the game seem somewhat empty since you're really just catching loads and loads of Pokemon. Some of the tasks for the Pokedex are also tedious as hell, especially when it comes to rare Pokemon like those only found in the already-rare space-time distortions.

One of the upsides is it had items to evolve pokemon that normally needed to be traded. Overall I loved the game. It was a little grindy but wasn't really bad. I had hopes that they would expand on it in scarlet and violet but those 2 were total let downs.

it's easily the best game they've done since like ORAS? maybe USUM but i haven't played those ones yet. arceus was better than SM tho.

arceus is definitely still flawed but it's a game that'll take hundred+ hours to 100% probably at least 50 to get the true ending. which i would just stop there and not bother to get 100% unless you're still really enjoying the game but all that stuff got tedious to me.

i am excited for an arceus 2 and think the game could improve on giving way more trainers for you to fight. maybe add in some early form of gyms or something. not sure how much the game is now but at this point wait for a sale and it'll probably be like half off on black friday. i paid $60 for it and thought it was worth it though. i beat lets go, BD, sword and skarlet and glad i didn't buy any of them cause i didn't find any to be worth the price and i have no interest in replaying any of those. arceus i could see me replaying years done the road if they never did a sequel.

If you've already finished it, is it fun to start over?
Last time I tried a Switch there was this thing where you could make a second profile and have another save even if the game only had one save file. I'd really like a handheld Pokemon game that's easy to replay.

If it seems like a good game its only because the bar is so low for Pokmon.

This is something I consider.
The newest Pokemon game I've played is White 1, so even though I've been reading up on what I missed lately, I'm still pretty out of the loop.

Pokemon Legends is like being at the peak of the Euthanasia Coaster.

It's good, but once you beat it, there isn't much to do besides endlessly catch pokemon >_>

It's fun. Hopefully we get more games in this style of gameplay(with improvements). It would've been a blast with multiplayer.

It's also one of the best games to shiny hunt in if that's something you like to do.

Its also probably the easiest game to shiny hunt in. Not only are they pretty frequent but they make a chime noise when they spawn so youll know to look out for it.

I hadn't played any Pokemon since RB on Gameboy, and I greatly enjoyed it. In spite of not recognizing most of the Pokemon there was a lot of nostalgia, I enjoy open world games, and I like the twists on gameplay.

For example, in Pokemon you walk through tall grass and get ambushed by Pokemon. In Arceus, you are stalk through tall grass and ambush the Pokemon yourself.

I finished the main quest, didn't complete the Pokedex and have no desire to start a new game, but I'm still very content with how much fun the hours I played were.

It's the best Pokemon game since like HGSS

If it wasnt the Pokmon IP it would have been considered a painfully unimpressive and glitchy Indy game that nobody ever heard of or purchased and would be buried near the bottom of the Nintendo store.

But it is Pokmon, so that considered its one of the better games GameFreak has put out in a while.

a boring open world game with a pathetic world that's not interesting to traverse. no multiplayer means you're stuck fighting the joke-tier enemy encounters so battling is pretty unsatisfying and unvaried. being able to throw pokeballs at pokemon is neat for like two minutes until you realize there's barely any variety to anything you do

the barebones satisfaction of collecting for the sake of it still exists i guess

Very fun game. Was a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Honestly, I think it's their best game since X/Y in all honesty, maybe even since before that.

A few moments are top-tier moments for the series in my opinion. Honestly a shame it didn't sell more than S/V as that shows the Freaks what direction they should take.

It looks like absolute shit, borderline made me feel sick from the muddy quality at the beginning, but it's legit the most fun I've had with a Pokemon game since I was a kid. The gameplay loop is extremely addictive.

I wasn't a huge fan. It was okay, but for me, I don't think it helped that I was about 60-70% of the way through when Tears of the Kingdom came out. So I was really eager to finish it to get to TOTK. It can get a little grindy and I was just kinda bored with it tbh.

Then by the time I finished and could play TOTK, a lot of Arceus' depth was underwhelming.

I know, it's not fair to compare the two, but since they were back to back for me it was hard not to do so.

I do think that if they use the Arceus blueprint and build on it for a sequel, it can be really great if they do it right.

No you can still carry 6.

My only complaints are not enough zones (only 5) and they repeat pokemon a lot when they could have had more variety.

Has the most difficult and probably all around best battle in a Pokemon game.

Its not bad. Im not a fan of the change to the gameplay overall or the end game content. Its a good 6/10 Pokmon game to get your fix.

That sounds like a knock against it to me.
Why would you want to be done just like that? That sort of ingest-it-once-then-buy-something-else thing keeps me away from loads of games nowadays. And I don't know how I feel about it'll leave you wanting more as a selling point yet.
That's why I'm asking what it's like playing the game repeatedly.

There's a Youtube channel nuzlocking every Pokemon game without using repeat Pokemon between games. His next game should be Arceus. Maybe I'd be better waiting to see that since it should go pretty in depth in terms of talking strategy.

It's not a knock because every game can be reduced to a similar metric. Why play any Pokemon game when all you end up having is just catching Pokemon endlessly? Why play DotA when all you end up with is playing the same game endlessly?

Reductive statements that are so blanket as to be meaningless are just not worth considering.

I wouldn't even call it a spinoff. It shares a lot with the mainline games.

I found it fun, but the battle system was boring and being forced to capture to level up makes the game drag. It's worth a playthrough though.

That and because I personally do not consider post-game content in the slightest unless it is more story content, like an epilogue or something. If a game holds up on its own before the credits, then it did its job. Anything else is just a bonus.

I think GF themselves consider it a mainline game.

It's considered a mainline game by Game Freak.

So...

Positives:
-Could be the fun kind of grindy where you can just dodge and attack and watch numbers go up.
-Exceeds low contemporary standards..
-It's different which is nice. Both battles and overworld gameplay are different.

Negatives:
-Could be the bad kind of grindy where you do the same thing repeatedly and want it to end faster.
-Nobody will talk about replaying the game. Very bad omen.
-Not a lot of opponents, limited postgame.
-Sounds like a small and empty world from the way people are talking about expanding on it in a sequel.
-If I were to get it I'd be supporting 2020s Game Freak.

Back in 2012 when I said I'd go with the first console to give me a list of 5 games I wanted to play, I never imagined it'd be like this.

Again, why? I almost never replay some damn good games.

The best part of the game is the fast pace. Pokmons always been bogged down by excessive text boxes (It started to rain!). The new battle system is a lot speedier, and you can catch 4 Pokmon in the time it takes you to catch 1 in a mainline game.

I dont quite see the point in replaying the game unless youre not interested in finishing the dex/catching shinies. Id say the postgames enough for that.

Better than Scarlet and Violet, it's the way new Pokemon games should be done. It's fantastic

I don't know if I'd go that far, but it did take several steps in the right direction. Plus, THAT fight near the very end!
