Read Me a Story, Stella is a childrens picture book about a pair of siblings reading books together and building a doghouse. However, because the authors name is Marie-Louise Gay, the book was added to a list of potentially sexually explicit books to be moved from the childrens section of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HCPL) system.

This is the level of absurdity America's Christian right has dragged us to.

I can only describe the current social conservative political push as vile and evil. Their politicians are complicit in sexual assault or rape cases, their media heads cause bomb threats to children's hospitals and mock victims of hate crimes, they want to scrub the word "gay" from public life entirely and have openly used the word "eradicate" in reference to LGBT people, they want to roll back civil rights and whitewash the 1960s of its civil rights movement, etc.

Seething, cruel hypocrites that are destined to fail but will do everything in their power to inflict as much collateral damage as possible.

Meanwhile, Michael Knowles goes before a crowd of wealthy exurbanites at CPAC and says transgendered people should be eradicated to applause. Something tells me people being petty and stupid is infinitely less important than open calls for genocide and a concerted effort to use the legal system and politically affiliated attorney generals to sabotage civil rights.

Conservative political leaders explicitly saying they want to eradicate gay people to no resistance has nothing to do with 261 and neither does someone being shitty over a license plate. The word "gay" is flagged because the stated goal is to remove any mentions of LGBT people from curriculum.

What is unhinged about what I claimed here? Do you want me to provide links and sources?

You come into a topic about the continued war/genocide against queer people to go "Actually there are some pretty wacky liberals too". And when someone tells you "shut up", you go "Haha see? Both sides are equally awful!"

Get back to us when Democrat politicians are publicly calling for the eradication of entire demographic and using their power to demonize and harm innocent people as much as possible, instead of just being weak. "But there are crazy nobodies saying crazy liberal stuff on social media!"

I'd be more sympathetic to it if maybe progressives like, attended Tankie conventions or something and Dems had a substantive tankie wing that denies Stalin's war crimes. Tankies are pretty comparable to fascists. The thing is that this doesn't exist among Dems in congress.

But multiple sitting Republican congresspeople went to AFPAC, hosted by an open holocaust denier and self-proclaimed fascist that wants the military to invade black neighborhoods. Would love for Naysayer to explain the "Both sides" here or the political party derangement of viewing this for what it self-evidently is where there's not remotely a Democratic or Leftist equivalent among elected officials.

In fairness, that was more a technicality of how the censor worked at the time. You could use the word but would get a note saying not to use it as an insult. However, words that were flagged this way were outright prohibited in topic titles.

It wasn't flagged as sexually explicit.

It was flagged for "review" because it was in a database created by entering certain words. Which in of itself is problematic.

It's a complete joke that certain pockets of the country feel the need to put these processes in place, as opposed to letting the children's parents review the material and decide whether or not the material can/should be review by their child.

When New York placed size limits on sugary drinks, conservatives whined about government overreach, insisting parents should be the ones who determine what is and isn't appropriate for their children. When it comes to reading material for children, their position has flipped 180 degrees. That irony isn't lost on me.
