I can dumbbell press 60 lbs and shoulder press 45 lbs.
Lateral raises 15 lbs
Bicep curl 30 lbs
Full body weight dips 10 times.

Am I still a novice or slightly intermediate now?

I started 6 months ago and before that my normal range for curls was at 20 lbs. I'm just curious what the normal "unspoken" weight amount is for those that lift regularly? I've heard that 60 lbs for shoulder presses was a good barometer for strength, but I see 18 year olds in gyms cranking 100 lbs.

It's gonna vary a lot, just depending on your frame. My starting curls were 30lbs, for example. 60lb seems like a good rough average.

You're doing high reps

You're failing. So you blame congress, the president, you blame Greece. But if you looked in the mirror and blamed yourself, you wouldn't like it very much.

Also this. You can push it higher with lower reps, and it's generally more efficient unless you're doing some sort of stamina focus.

There is no way to give a meaningful answer to this question without weight and height.

Yes thank you. Don't waste your time with high rep low weight. Build that strength. Heavy weight to fail, low reps.

Say going for the basic 5x5 but are you doing High reps for building muscle, endurance, and strength?

I use 20 lbs dumbbells and curl about 19 or 20 per set, both bicep and tricep. I should get bigger ones but Im cheap.

I see. Thank you guys both for this info.

The next weight I have is 45 lbs. Can I jump from 30 lbs to 45 without going in between? I don't have a gym access so I'm unfortunately limited to 20 lbs, 30 lbs, 45 lb , and 60 lb dumbbells.

Just be careful, as they can cause ganglion cysts in the wrists. I got one removed from my right wrist and it came back. I use perfect push up things so I dont have to bend the wrists, but it makes pushups harder.

Youre not weak, but youre not what would be considered intermediate.

Strength is usually measured with the compound lifts, so for some comparable lifts to what you posted like the dumbbell press youd have to bench press around 225lbs to be considered intermediate. Youre probably more in between novice and intermediate.

Someone else above already said it though, best to not compare yourself to some subjective standards and just focus on overall improvement.

Yeah good point, using push up supports bars are really useful and make you work harder...

Its a very hard answer without information. How tall are you? How long have you been lifting etc.

if you are doing proper formed bicep curls, than 30 is respectable for a novice lifter. If youve been lifting for a while, Id expect you to be able to do a 40-50 lb curl single atleast, but its stupid to even lift that much for proper formed curls as you can actually tear your bicep that way, along with shoulders its the easiest to just flat out hurt yourself ego lifting
