In the Mirror universe, it's the Terran Empire, who enslaved the Klingon Empire and obliterated Romulus (which caused all surviving Romulans to commit mass suicide to avoid enslavement, so there are no Romulans left), and ruled the Alpha Quadrant with an iron fist. (Then when Spock seized power, he essentially dismantled the Empire, which allowed the Klingons, Cardassians and Bajorans to unite and overthrow the Terran Empire, and enslave humanity)
That sounds awful :(

I still think not having Georgiou be a descendant of Hoshi Sato was a missed opportunity.

Who says she wasn't?
There's a huge time gap between Hoshi Sato's era and Georgiou.

Alot of things can happen.

True, and it's my headcanon anyway. I just meant that I'm a little disappointed Discovery didn't draw the reference directly.

Tangentially, learning that the second half of S1 Disco takes place in the Mirror Universe is what finally got me to start watching it. I love ST MU shit.

It would have been just another "Easter Egg", but Hoshi Sato being her "Great Grand Mother" would've been largely inconsequential in terms of storyline value, so I can see why they never mentioned it. Nobody would care in universe, the only people who would care are Trek fans outside of the shows in universe lore.

It's great as long as you don't abuse it and go to it too often.

For casual viewing, s3 of TNG is a good entry.

Otherwise, start at s1 of TNG, and work your way through DS9 and Voyager.

At this point, I'd say TOS is really for people who appreciate the history of Trek more than anything. It's not something a casual consumer in 2023 is necessarily going to glom onto, unless they're of a certain age.

I'm a Trek fan, start to finish, so I don't think there's a good place to end. Just keep going til you've got it all, and then wait for more. That's me, though.

Seconded. I wouldn't have enjoyed Strange New Worlds NEARLY as much if I hadn't dipped my toes in the original and animated series first :)

I mostly agree with this. TNG season 3 is probably the easiest place to start with older Trek if you just want to dip your toe in the water and get a sense whether Trek is for you. You'd also be fine just googling a list of best TNG episodes and watching those. It's not a very serialized show so it's fine to skip around for the most part.

If you want to check out a modern Trek show Strange New Worlds is probably your best bet.

TOS is good. I think the writing and performances hold up well for being such an old show. But it is a show that's more than a half century old. If you're used to watching TV and movies from the 60s you might start there but otherwise it might be a little too jarring. Definitely worth checking out though if you do watch other Star Trek and find that it clicks with you.

Also seconded with Strange New Worlds for modern Trek, lol.

Discovery's first few episodes are...jarring to me. And I have several questions LMAO.

Like, why was that court martial trial so damn dark? Imo, you can show the seriousness of the situation while also being able to see, haha.

Also, are Starfleet prisoners normally allowed to keep their badge for six months after being stripped of rank and sent to prison?

Tilly, however, is a shining light in an otherwise VERY dark show lmao. Also, she damn cute, too. :3

S3 opens and ends with two of the arguably worst episodes of the entire TOS. It's a 50/50 season.

This is basically also my assessment. TOS isn't for "Where do I start?" people. It's for people into Trek who want the whole experience after jamming with any of the newer stuff.

Finished Season 2 of Discovery. Been absolutely going on a tear with it lately. Lots of time on my hands...

The ending of season 2 felt like a necessary, but still very cheap way to package Discovery into the backstory of TOS. Was let down by it a bit.

But I've heard that Season 3 and 4 are much more free to chart Discovery's own course, so that should still be fun

You reminded me that I still haven't watched season 4 of Discovery.

I can say at least that season 3 is a little better than season 2. There's still some dumb stuff but the time jump was the right move.

Slowed down a touch, but still only three episodes off from finishing season 4.

Sleep apnea's a bitch, and I've been staying up late, lol.

Thesong that Zora sings to Michael fucking broke me. I've lived a weary life, and it hit me hard.

Edit: Watched the scene again just now. NOPE, couldn't do it without instantly tearing up.

Edit Part Deux: No seriously. I've listened to three other covers of the song plus the original. It's Annabelle Wallis' song now. Outstanding rendition.

Its a swan song, but it really was a last stand move, and you really felt like it was just as over as Michael and Zora must have felt.

And they have! Green Lantern Corps and Legion of Superheroes, apparently!
