Nicholas Meyer said he would redo the forced mind meld in ST VI if he could. I thought it was ok maybe a bit drastic but given the situation drastic measures were taken.

Not having good video games, I can understand. Star Trek is a series that doesn't translate well to video games outside of perhaps visual novels, real-time strategy or perhaps the occasional action games.

Not having good merch is why I busted a gut laughing when I saw Boimler in Lower Decks be so PROUD of his Star Trek collector plates.

I thought it was perfect that I just so happened to watch that episode not long after we touched on the fact that most of this serie's merch outside of novels and comic books suck. In a big way, LMAO.

It's almost like the people at Paramount know it sucks, too. Almost, haha.

Man, it's like Lower Decks was tailor-made for fairweather, up to this point, on the fence EVEN, casual fans of Star Trek like me.

I am VERY pleased I came in with watching at least TOS and TAS first, for sure! But it also seems like this series is a crash course in pretty much every notable Star Trek series and movie ever made. A truly entertaining comedy to boot!

I am enthralled by this series. Excellent shit.

The first movie is slow moving and and outlier compared to the rest. Still "good trek" and probably the only "pure Star Trek" movie made. I suggest the newly released directors cut.

For some reason I never watched Star Trek: The Motion Picture until a few years ago. I really liked it. Sure, the beauty shots of The Enterprise are over done, but I can picture myself sitting in a movie theater in 1979 and being amazed at it. Plus I can just fast forward. It's the closest of any of the movies to the TV show. It really feels like a bigger budgeted and better written episode of the show. It's not action packed like the rest of the movies, but it didn't need to be. I think they only fire the ship's phasers or photon torpedoes once if I recall. I really like the "twist" as well. Too many people overlook it, especially those with the silly opinion that the odd numbered movies suck.

My issues with it were the characters were way too stiff and that familiar crew seemed off. And yeah the long drawn out shots of the Enterprise and other showcase shots were slow moving. It definitely is not as bad as its made out to be and has some good stuff in it. Absolutely 100% worth a watch if you have never seen it. And lets not forget this is the movie that birthed TNG's theme.

It's been a while since I've seen the film or episode, but wasn't Picard for forcefully moving people for the greater good in the one episode with the Native Americans? What was different when it was the Baku? Because the Natives didn't have a hot milfy chick that wanted to bang him? To steal a joke, they should have called it Star Trek: Hiserection.

Yeah, the pace is a problem and so is the weird disconnect the original cast had not counting Spock because at least that made sense and was his "normal" self at the end basically.

Speaking of music, I love when they sneak in the TOS theme in the soundtrack. Gave me chills when I first heard it and I'm not one who gets them much from a movie.

Maybe he learned, because that was the episode where they lost Wesley, right? It was his last appearance on the show when the Traveller walked off with him?

I used to not like TMP but in recent years I've really come around to it. The pacing is so different from what we're used to in modern movies and you've got to be ready for that. It's about letting yourself be immersed in the world it's presenting, experiencing the excellent visuals and music, and taking in the ideas it's presenting. It still has its problems, some of which are addressed by the director's cut. On the whole, I like it a lot. I'd definitely say it's good Star Trek.

What's the one Star Trek series y'all would recommend to someone who's only ever watched the Abrams trilogy? Almost fell asleep during the third one of those, so clearly I'm not a fan of constant action setpieces. Also not a fan of how sterile newer treks in general look. Based on the clips I've seen I'd probably prefer older treks because the sets look more lived in to me, if that makes sense. Would prefer something with a greater emphasis on social issues and day in the life type of scenes more than action scenes. I'm guessing TNG would he a safe bet just because Patrick Stewart is fucking based.

The scene I needed to hear again the other day was the self destruct sequence from Let This Be Your Last Battlefield

Despite the sounds of typewriters, this is still the most tense moment in TOS. The closeups of the faces really sell the Western standoff feel of it. So good.

In the Mirror universe, it's the Terran Empire, who enslaved the Klingon Empire and obliterated Romulus (which caused all surviving Romulans to commit mass suicide to avoid enslavement, so there are no Romulans left), and ruled the Alpha Quadrant with an iron fist. (Then when Spock seized power, he essentially dismantled the Empire, which allowed the Klingons, Cardassians and Bajorans to unite and overthrow the Terran Empire, and enslave humanity)
