Kevin McCarthy isn't that great but I have no idea why the Dems would work with the crazy alt right to oust him out of the position. Now we can get even someone who's crazier.

I heard Jim Jordan is up for the spot and he's even crazier than McCarthy.

What pisses me off about the whole thing is that we can either deal with someone who's a complete shitstain (like McCarthy) or get someone worse. The kicker? It'll continue down this way. A few years from now we'll get someone who made McCarthy's replacement look tame. Probably a flat earther who openly supports executing queer people.

He burned his bridges. The moderates of the Republican party aren't going to stand for someone crazier. That's why we got McCarthy in the first place. Now the next guy knows: If you want to keep your job, you better work with dems, and actually keep your promises to them.

Democrats weren't working with the crazy alt right. They just have no reason to do anything to help Kevin McCarthy.
  • Kevin McCarthy said Trump bears responsibility for January 6th
  • A few days later, Kevin McCarthy went to Maralago to kiss Trump's ass
  • Kevin McCarthy worked out a deal to fund the government with Joe Biden and Democrats months ago, but reneged on the deal because Trump wanted him to.
  • Kevin McCarthy said an impeachment inquiry requires a House vote to be valid
  • Kevin McCarthy ordered an impeachment inquiry without a House vote
  • In said impeachment inquiry, the witnesses the Republicans brought said they didn't have evidence that would support impeachment
  • Kevin McCarthy, just last Sunday, went on TV and tried to say Democrats wanted the shutdown to happen when it's Republicans who are openly campaigning for a shutdown.
  • Kevin McCarthy is now trying to say Democrats bear responsibility for January 6th

Kevin McCarthy was the most feckless speaker of the house I've ever seen.

I've asked this somewhere else already, but so what if we get someone crazier? What exactly would they even do?

Shut down the government? That was already almost a certainty with McCarthy.
Impeach Biden? Already down that road.
Pass shitty legislation that has no chance in the Senate? Already doing that.

Rule 26, for those that do not know:

https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4238156-why-rule-26-is-trending-trump-speaker/

Rule 26 is included in the House Republican Conference Rules of the 118th Congress, which was approved in January.

It states that a member of the Republican Leadership shall step aside if indicted for a felony for which a sentence of two or more years imprisonment may be imposed.

According to Rule 2, the Speaker is included in the definition of leadership, alongside the Republican leader, the Republican whip, the chair of the Republican conference, the chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, the chair of the Committee on Policy, the vice chair of the Republican conference and the secretary of the Republican conference.

Was McCarthy not ousted specifically because he reached across the aisle to delay the shutdown? Yes, he had enemies on all sides, but this is what triggered that powder keg.

Again, Trump isnt a current member of the House. Theres debate on if rule 26 should apply to his possible appointment as the Speaker. A political science professor I know says that it wouldnt, but thats only his opinion. We will see what happens next week when these idiots nominate him.

The speaker of the house is a member of the house, though, so he would have to step aside if they made him speaker of the house.

The thing about that rule is that it could theoretically be read as they only have to step down if indicted while they're in the party leadership role. So Trump, who's already had his multiple indictments, wouldn't be required to step down unless indicted again.

That or since they're republicans and there are no rules for republicans they just ignore it because they're fuckbags.

Trump wouldn't have the votes to be speaker anyway though so it's irrelevant right now.

Yeah, the passing of time will do that, but it's just weird when Fox's crap was seen as comedy by most people I knew, Republicans included, at the time of Obama's election. Now I don't want to do any clicking or viewing to support that machine that must have a good pull on dumbfucks flipping through stations. The 2016 election I could have chalked up to the GOP capitalizing on Democrats' complacency and the growing notion of how evil the "Democratic establishment" is, such that they were able to convince a large amount of Americans it was just voting for the lesser of two evils. But to perpetuate the deception, the way they can persist in getting people to care over the dumbest crap, like Hunter Biden and the notion that many Republican figures' corruption finally catching up to them must be a witch hunt, is extremely frustrating.

So excuse the generic rant, but every time I see relevant people act like Trump has any legitimacy for a governmental position, despite a number of prohibitions in place suggesting otherwise and no matter what shit comes out about him, it kills my faith in impressionable voters that much more.

Right, kind of what I was getting at with the last post, only Fox didn't JUST happen. What has changed is the legitimacy so many actually attach to it. And again, much of me wants to go back and blame reality TV for making politics into just another game / drama show for so many spiteful Americans. Fox News, especially as it currently exists, is basically an example of trash-tier TV spilling into political programming, instead of keeping idiots pre-occupied by the Apprentice or Desperate Housewives or whatever they were watching beforehand.
