I'm not really seeing a huge jump this year.

Google's trade-in values are also fucked. They'll give me $385 for the 7 Pro if I preorder the 8, and $420 for the 7 Pro if I preorder the 8 Pro.

The 8 will also be at least $100 cheaper on Black Friday, and they'll probably give $100 less on the trade-in.

Probably not. I have a 7, don't see any reason to upgrade... especially with the trade in values being so low

I can get $300 for my 6a toward the regular 8, which is what Id prefer. Reeeeaaally tempted. Probably wait a few days for initial reviewer feedback but want to get my order in for the free Pixel Buds Pro.

When I got my 7 Pro I paid regular price ($899) and they gave me $405 for my 4XL.

Black Friday the phone was $750, but the trade-in for the 4XL was only $285. I contacted Google and they price matched the BF price, giving me a $150 refund and I still got the $405 trade-in from the initial purchase.

So tbh, it's best to get it before the BF sale with the higher trade-in price, then have Google refund when the sale starts.

About as much reason as any year to upgrade a single generation.

Hmm, pixel 3 gets $200. I can buy a refurb on eBay for about $70.

Hopefully it's worth upgrading from Pixel 4a to 8 or 8 pro

I say don't. The big tensor chip upgrade will be in 2025 IIRC. Instead of using the shitty Samsung Exynos that they've been using for their chips it'll be fully in house using TSMC.

Simply put, the 2025 pixels should be way ahead in battery life, efficiency and reduced heating compared to past gens so wait for that.

Then I recommend going for the 6(pro) or 7(pro) which should all be at a steep discount now that the 8 series is out. That way you'll have an upgrade that isn't so far behind the 8, you'll save money and you can use that saved money for the 2025 pixel with the significant chip upgrade.
