Spider-Man is kinda like DC's Superman in terms of his hero ethic. He's supposed to be the pure hearted hero of Marvel. When others compromise, Peter refuses. He always does the right thing. Until now.

Not always, spiderman had been shown willing to bend the law and even kill. I remember him lifting the kingpin by his skin and in outright told him he'd come back and kill him (in front of his goons no less) if aunt May died. That he better PRAY she lived or else he'd come back to finish him for good.

My point is that Peter does have a dark side to him and isn't above breaking his own code... But I'm also not defending this run nor how stupid it is.
