A Tri-Cities woman died Thursday after she was reportedly mauled by two pitbulls, including one that ran into her home on West Victoria Avenue in an unincorporated Kennewick neighborhood. Billene Billi Cameron, 65, died of complications related to surgery at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland after she was mauled the day before, Wednesday Sept. 20. She and her husband, Dwayne Woodard, are well known business owners. They and their son, Jackson, established Woodys BullPen Bar & Grille at the former Billys Bull Pen Tavern in Kennewick in 2018. The pitbulls first attacked her pug on Wednesday, but Cameron was able to get her dog away from them as she also was attacked, according to information posted by her cousin Vern Lampman Jr. on his Facebook page. A neighbor behind her property saw the attack and climbed over the six-foot fence, falling into Camerons yard, according to Lampman. The neighbor used his cane to beat one of the pitbulls, allowing Cameron to escape into her house.

But the other pitbull followed her into the house and continued the attack on her, Lampman said. The neighbor followed her into the house and was able to get the pitbull away from her using a shovel he had grabbed, he said. She then managed to get into her bathroom, close the door and called 911, Lampman posted. Benton County Sheriffs deputies were in the area and arrived quickly to contain the pitbulls and Cameron was taken to a hospital. She passed away shortly after midnight on Thursday after two surgeries, he said. The attack happened about 2 p.m. Wednesday. The pitbulls are being held by Benton County and owner of the dogs has been identified, said Benton County Sheriffs Detective Sgt. Horacio Gonzalez. An investigation is ongoing and no arrests had been made as of Friday, he said.

I think the amount of people who get killed/attacked by dogs in the US is probably a lot higher than people expect, and probably a lot higher than in many other countries.

An autopsy is planned Wednesday Sept. 17 in Thurston County, Wash.

What's the point of this, to prove the dogs killed her and the old man didn't cane her to death?

Because she died from the surgery and they need to know if it was malpractice or not.

It's interesting how you never hear of a Beagle or a King Charles Spaniel (or 90% of dog breeds) attached to a story like this.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DOGS? The two dogs were seized by Benton County animal officials and are currently being held at the Benton County Canine Shelter in Kennewick. Their fate is unclear. The sheriffs office has the power to determine if the dogs are dangerous, according to county code. If that happens, the owner can object to that designation within 10 business days and appeal the issue in court. If a judge determines that the dogs pose an immediate threat to the public, the owner may be responsible for all of the costs associated with keeping them at the shelter. County code allows the animal shelter to euthanize any dogs deemed dangerous that are confiscated that have been in the shelter for longer than three days. Its not clear if the dogs get a second chance after being determined to be dangerous. If they are returned to the owner, the owner may be required to take several steps to make sure the animals are properly contained, must pay a $500 annual permit and are required to buy insurance.

Sure hope they did the right thing and executed those dogs. Imagine if they actually released them back to the custody of the owner...

Was gonna say it because of their small size so they don't see us as prey (and cat scratches can't really cause us much damage) but then realized even chihuahuas have caused irreparable damage to a human. So yeah cats are just super duper peaceful towards humans

Cats are just super lazy and don't waste time on things that take too much energy. Lions and tigers will happily rip out your throat. Wolves will aggressively hunt things much larger than they are.

i just realized that pitbulls are much smaller than most adult humans too. they are just strong enough to cause a ton of damage i guess. also the chihuahua story is true although very rare for it to occur. a woman got her eyelid ripped out by one iirc.

i would avoid all larger cats for sure. i don't think i can defeat even a bigger small cat like the cheetah and people nowadays say those cats are weak af (i blame tier zoo).

Cheetahs are the smallest/weakest "big cat" but tbh I wouldn't take my chances around a feral lynx either.

Cheetahs are not classified as true big cats and aren't much bigger than Lynx.

I'd be more trusting of a cheetah than a lynx or most other "medium" kats. Their klaws suck from all the sprinting.
