common core really favors private schools over public schools?
Yes? It's a garbo system designed to make people dumber by using it versus the older, tailored system. The act of purposely making something worse is an indirect way to push something else.

Like, if I took your favorite soda and put arsenic in it would you not say that this change favored other sodas?

I don't really remember their names, but occasionally I read about the occasional low-profile billionaire who donates to and invests a lot into environmental goals, and support higher taxes for the super rich.

Yeah the giving pledge is a good gesture esp. Considering that only a small % of billionaires would sign it. But iirc buffet and gates have both said the vast majority of their wealth will be donated after they pass

Ric Flair is a great heel but nobody can generate heat like Mr. McMahon does. He can get a sold out stadium mad as fuck and booing without even being present. The thing that also really elevates him as a heel is he didn't even need the paycheck and him threatening to fire wrestlers or ruin their career in the ring is absolutely perfect as a character considering he is the CEO and it plants the tiniest idea in your head that you don't know if he's in kayfabe or not. The Attitude Era absolutely relies on his rivalry with Stone Cold.

From "Immeasurable Outcomes - Teaching Shakespeare in the Age of the Algorithm" by Gayle Greene:

"The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation may be the destructive force in education," writes John Warner in Inside Higher Education. If Gates has his way - as he may, since his foundation "has influence everywhere...federal, state...local," writes Tom Loveless of the Brookings Institue - we may be seeing increased pressure on higher education to transform itself into a system that works for students motivated primarily by the drive for earnings. People are rarely so single-mindedly bent on gain, except in the eyes of those who are motivated themselves; though in desperate times, "incentivzed" by the reward system the Gates Foundation proposes, they may be pushed to do so.

Just because billionaires donate a lot of their money doesn't mean they're donating it to the right thing or for the right reasons

it's better than nothing, gates said he is donating 99 percent , he offered all billionaires to sign it at at only 50 percent and most of them wouldn't do that

Sir Richard Branson annoys me the least so him. Seems like one of the most humane billionaire out there, having fun yet never losing touch with his human emotions (joy, sadness, emphaty, etc). Also manage NOT to go off the deep end unlike a certain manchild. That said I hate his tax evasion attempt haha.

Branson owns Necker Island in British Virgin Islands (BVI) and sometimes in 2006 he decided to fully move there. BVI is a well known offshore haven for corporate & financial entities due to its "friendly" tax laws.

https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxation_in_the_British_Virgin_Islands
Among the items in the British Virgin Islands that are not subject to taxation: no capital gains tax, no gift tax, no sales tax or value added tax, no profit tax, no inheritance tax or estate duty, and no wealth tax.
There is technically still income tax assessed in the British Virgin Islands for companies and individuals, but the rate of taxation has been set at zero.

Branson defended his decision to move there by claiming that it was for health related reason.
https://web.archive.org/web/20131014013022/http://www.virgin.com/richard-branson/on-necker-island
I still work day and night, now focusing on not-for-profit ventures with Virgin Unite, but on Necker I can also look after my health. There is no better place to stay active and I can kitesurf, surf, play tennis, swim, do Pilates and just play.

He also attempted tax evasion (and was caught) during his earlier days. To his credit Branson himself wrote about this.
https://slate.com/business/2014/05/richard-branson-tax-fraud-how-a-youthful-indiscretion-helped-create-a-billionaire.html

Now to be honest I'm inclined to give him the benefit of doubt however afaik he no longer has any residency/estate on the mainland, severing most of his tax relation with the UK. Maybe he didn't actually intend to commit tax evasion by moving to BVI? I dunno but what I do know is that you can kitesurf, surf, play tennis, swim and do Pilates just fine on the mainland

Depends on how you define "shitty stuff".

There's the shitty stuff he's done since founding Microsoft, just tons of anti-competitive practices. Then there's the shitty stuff in his personal life that's responsible for his wife leaving him: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/16/business/bill-melinda-gates-divorce-epstein.html

Like, how shitty of stuff do you mean?

I definitely respect what Mark Cuban is doing with perscription drugs. And I really respects that he admits he thinks it will ultimately be a profitable business, and doesn't deny that selfishness plays as much of a role as altruism. But he's doing good here.

That doesn't mean he's a good person overall though. He didn't get there by being decent.

George Lucas has an educational foundation that produces a lot of good work. I cite Edutopia all the time in my work.

Also, the Common Core State Standards have been grossly misrepresented in previous posts. The whole point of CC is to encourage more critical, independent thinking that is founded on productive struggle and learning how to figure out things rather than memorizing algorithms. The problem isnt the standards; its that very few people know how to teach that way.
