Literally the best versions of these games. Change my mind

They ported the mobile versions over to console finally after like 9 years.

Every game is widescreen and 60fps. And each game lets you play as all 4 characters (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy) as well as their Super forms in Sonic 1, 2, and 3K. They also let you retry Special Stages on the spot.

As for individual additions for each game:

Sonic 1:
-Elemental Shield option
-Spike glitch toggle
-Spindash option
-Optional 7th Chaos emerald that lets you turn Super
-A bunch of beta easter eggs in the debug mode that were restored
-Speed and airspeed cap toggles

Sonic 2:
-Elemental Shield option as well as a Mystery Monitor option that hides and randomizes the monitors
-Hidden Palace Zone is restored and has a new boss
-Knuckles and Tails as a playable option
-Airspeed toggle
-3D Halfpipe stage which makes it way smoother and easier to control
-8th Halfpipe stage

Sonic CD:
-Both audio options for Japanese and American soundtracks
-Choose between the old CD spindash and the modern spindash
-Special stage is much smoother and the mode 7 is scaled better

Sonic 3 & Knuckles:
-New intro scenes for all playable characters
-Tails has a Super form as well as a Hyper form instead of just his Super form from the original
-Big Arm (the final boss from Sonic 3 Standalone) is restored in all routes of the game and the cutscene that follows the fight is modified to lead into Mushroom Hill Zone
-Knuckles fights against Egg Robo in Flying Battery like he's supposed to (instead of the game accidentally loading Eggman's sprite)

That's all I can think of. But basically it's the definitive versions of all those games and it makes them a blast to play >_>

I was never very interested in the 2D games sadly. So I'm going to pass.

The only thing I'll say about the collection is that the sound for the Game Gear games is off and sounds echo-y, and that several Sonic 3 tracks were replaced with (IMO) lesser quality music. It's not even that I don't like the compositions because I grew up with the PC Collection where those songs were taken from, they just sound like they're from another game/soundchip.

But other than that I think it's a solid classic game collection if you want updates and extra features to the old games.

I went back to try out Amy in the Genesis games.

How can it be the best version of these games when it doesn't have the original Ice Cap Zone music

for real? haven't tried sonic 3 yet, but it seems like amy doesn't have any intro scenes in the other games (while the other characters do)

Still playing Diablo

I blew through 2 and 3 with Amy. The Death Egg Robo fight is hilariously broken when you've got an insta-shield with a hitbox three times bigger than you are. >_>

I do really love that these versions have been freed from the mobile prison. Really wish Hidden Palace (Sonic 2) was a full, two-zone stage because it's a lot of fun. The boss is kinda lame though and has a completely different design philosophy than any other boss in the Genesis games. Thankfully, it is also broken with Amy lol.

You can always get it on PC and use the music replacement mod (I'm sure someone's made it by now).

Pretty much. Origins Sonic 3 is hilariously broken. Everything from the physics to the sound is f-ed up in it. 1 & 2 are fine, although they are pretty much just ports of the mobile versions with less features, so will have most of the benefits/weaknesses of those versions. The package is pretty hit & miss overall

Oh and the missions mode is so jank. Kind of disappointing since I liked the mission modes in the Megaman Legacy Collections. They're not bad, but also...not good lol.

The shmup missions are addictingly infuriating though,

Never tried Sonic 3 AIR. I played Sonic 3 Complete which was awesome though.

hmmm so there's no complete + version on steam? has to buy the base game and then DLC separately?

Sonic CD doesnt have any afaik.

Yes and no for Sonic 1....
You can use debug for Super Monitors if you want. But you want to get super mode organically, you have to enter the level select cheat, and then toggle an option for 7 emeralds on the main menu. You cant ever gain access to it from the main save files. It's only for No Save runs.

Does 3&K still have the crappy music or did they change it back to how it was on the Genesis?

The Game Gear games were originally mono, but Sega tried to make them stereo in the SO+ collection.

According to Twitter user kirisamemofo, the audio is the result of an attempt to create a faux stereo effect, and that by putting it into audio editing software and converting it back to mono it sounds like it normally would on any other emulator.

I barely touched the Game Gear games so idk what's up with them. I just wish they went with the Master System versions instead since they have bigger screen space

I had them and liked them when I was younger, but there's just nothing for me any time I try going back to them.

No. The only easier things are infinite lives and instant retrys on special stages. But that's only on Anniversary Mode. Classic mode is just like the Genesis games.

Kinda. She has an insta-shield move that doubles her hitbox and her drop dash makes her invincible for a few seconds. Everyone is easier than Sonic >_>

figures lol. i hated that they didnt add it in the first game. thanks for telling me though, cuz i didnt feel like collecting them all lol.

tbh im not a fan with what they did with amy in this game. i preferred her gameplay style in advance.

You should try AIR. It is a widescreen hack that uses the original rom data, so it doesn't have all the physics, hitbox, audio & graphical glitches that Origins Sonic 3 has. It is the definitive way to play the game on modern hardware and one of the most impressive fan ports I've played.
