hinagiku is Not Great. Rock Club clears Another Winter why is that the popular pick. Chain of pain would be better if it was like... half the length. Goes on for way too long without really developing all too much, but it's cool enough. Soy Sauce for Geese is on my playlist lol, it was always going to be my vote. Fullmetal Fighter and Turning Point are both really cool, but FMF is a bit more my thing so it's getting my vote.

That said, this was very much a Nekomata/kors k + Notam day for me. I'm not the only one who could see Turning Point as a Mr. Domino track, right?

MATCH 1

Hinagiku was a memorable song from VGMC14, so it's cool to see it here again. Unfortunately, though, I have a strong preference for the original version over this one. The vocals are nice, and I really like the melodic loop that plays throughout the song as well as the dreamy synths at 1:00, but I feel like this version loses a lot of its dreamlike sound to me from the way it's arranged. I think I'd still vote Rock Club either way, but the match would be a lot closer if it was the original version of the song.

I really like the Scott Pilgrim game's soundtrack and Anamanaguchi in general. Pretty good melody overall, especially at 0:09-0:28 and 0:48-1:07. I realize now that that's like 75% of the song lol, so I'll just say that I also like the remaining parts that I didn't mention nearly as much.

MATCH 2

Chain of Pain has a nice amount of depth to it. I feel like I prefer the Nekomata Master songs that are more in your face with their melody, but the interplay between all the different instruments in the song create a cool soundscape that works well also. I also think it's grown on me a little since I filled out my favorites bracket.

Soy Sauce for Geese is fine, but nothing special.

MATCH 3

I feel similarly about Fullmetal Fighter to Soy Sauce for Geese, but Fullmetal Fighter's noticeably better. Still not all that invested in it though.

Turning Point is okay. It's my least favorite song of the day, but it's not bad nor is it that much worse than my other bottom half songs.

I know this is a very "this song gives me Persona 5 vibes" type of comment but hinagiku reminded me quite a lot of Katamari. Nice song but not really my thing.

I have no clue what to say about this even tho I didn't have a problem talking about it when I pushed for it years ago. I'm a huge fan and I like the kinda crunchy intervals in the low fidelity 9 loop that sounds like Steve and it evokes imagery in my head that I think is so coool

I honestly know nothing about Scott Pilgrim other than that "hipsters" like it or something.

I associate nekomata master more with the Sine Wave and epiano fusion chordz feel(elebits) and sometimes forget he's actually an intense edm guy. BUT this does still have its sprinkles of 1 second that just sound like elebits which is so cool

the nice sprinkles of dissonant stuff here give it an edge I like

so i was going to say this aleste one reminded me of puyo puyo. apparently this composer worked on that!? so perhaps the comparison is not shallow after all. there's some really unhinged solos here that I appreciate

its mostly the "tarkus organ" parts of this I love this one so much for, but overall this shares the otherworldly sound design I love about this ost
