I'm not sure I'd go that far, but I've always liked Mario Land because it has a distinctly different feel to it in the same way SMB2 did

land was the first mario game I owned and the first that I beat. I have an absolute shit ton of nostalgia for it.

I never found SML1 all that great. Now SML2 on the other hand...

I'll note I've never properly played any SMB apart from New Super Mario Bros (I think that was the title; the one on DS). Briefly looked at SMB and SMB3 but never completed or gotten too far into them.

Does anybody actually like 2D Mario. I thought those were just games you downloaded on your phone emulators just in case and then never played for more than 10 minutes

I liked land because it was new-ish when I got it. I would not have been able to download it on my parents' landline at the time though because it was like '91 or '92 I think

Nah. Land was great as a Game Boy launch title, but it doesn't hold up at all. Super Mario Land 2 was a vast, vast improvement.

Super Mario Bros. 1 still more-or-less stands the test of time.

Yes. The original games and World are all great. The New Super Mario Bros. series are kind of bland and soulless in comparison (especially starting with Wii and/or NSMB2).

Nah. Bros 1 was great as a NES launch title, but it doesn't hold up at all. Super Mario Bros 2 was a vast, vast improvement.

I think Super Mario Land holds up better than Super Mario. I'm very familiar with both games from my youth, but Super Mario 1 and the original Super Mario 2 are too archaic to play. The small mechanical differences with Land matters to me.
