Do you?

I just realize that RE2 Remake had Ray tracing removed on PC, and some other games are too

Odd since this was touted as this huge next generation feature.

Not really, since I'm primarily a Nintendo console gamer (so I have to work with the power on offer, or lack thereof).

It can look nice, but it's not worth it yet because the frame rate goes to shit with it on.

Exactly and I have a goddamn 3080.

I don't want to play a sideshow. I mean, it's a pretty sideshow, but still a slideshow.

60 fps > ray tracing

if they can do both at the same time like Spider-Man and miles morales great, otherwise who gives a damn.

Nah. Seems like an attempt to hype up a marginal increase in technology.

Oh wow, the background graphics are slightly more impressive. Whoop-de-do.

Is it one of those things you have to see in person to get the full effect? Because I see Digital Foundry videos about x game getting a ray trace update or whatever, and I dont know what Im supposed to be impressed with.

Of course. Ray tracing has been around for a while, but games using it in real time in hasn't been something that technology could handle until recently. We'll see it get used more and more as graphics cards advance.

Basically it's the difference between developers having to manually create all of their lighting effects, or the processor doing it automatically. So ray tracing makes their jobs easier at the cost of a higher performance cost for hardware to run it.

Actual lighting and reflections primarily. Its not something anyone would notice if they werent looking forward to it.

Ray tracing is the future, but until it becomes optimized or hardware becomes strong enough to handle it there just isn't a need for it.

Not currently but I'm sure when I upgrade my PC to a 40 series graphic card I probably will notice the difference.

Not really. It's one of those "I'd use it if my hardware supported it but don't care if I can't" things for me, and it's probably not gonna happen in any game that would actually benefit from it on my Radeon 680M lol.
