The show itself isn't rigged outright, but the producers have a hand in picking who to eliminate. They sabotage contestants during service and use editing to justify their elimination decisions

Also, the winners don't actually get the prize of working for Ramsay. They get a year long contract that they get paid for, but very few actually work for him

Don't be bad mouthing Gordon.

He does hire some of the ones that end up being exceptional, like Christina. Plus even people that don't win it looks amazing on the resume.

Pretty much. She runs a bunch of his restos now. I get that they try to make drama, but Ramsey knows who's good and who ain't so I'm sure getting to flex in front of him is essentially applying for a job.

Also, does anyone know what happened to Van in the Allstars season? Did he fuck up in Vegas or some shit?

I had a friend have the same thing happen in American Idol. She didn't have any drama, so they showed her once as a cutaway, and then was removed before the third cull when it was clear she had no baggage.

I'd have to look it up, but there was an episode a few years back where they were caught using footage from a previous night's challenge. You could see someone who had already been eliminated in the background

I've noticed that every challenge with the exception of a couple of blow out victories that they can't hide, they're almost entirely ties or as close to ties as possible up until the very end, which obviously increases tension and excitement in the viewer.

It's too extreme to be a coincidence. What I think blatantly happens is that Gordon tailor his scores for dishes after what is needed for the show rather than what the dish actually deserves. A dish that was a 1/5 or 3/5 will instead become 2/5 if that serves the purpose of tension building. I'm watching season 20 right now and in one challenge (I think the first episode signature challenge) someone served him a shrimp with the shitsack inside. I've never seen him be forgiving of that before, but this time the person got a 2 rather than a bottom score.

I also imagine in challenges where they have to break down and clean something, a presentation that is "almost" acceptable will become acceptable or vice versa depending on necessity.

Also they probably flip around presentation orders in editing to keep scores as close as possible.

That... doesn't prove anything tbh. Such editing 'mistakes' happen a lot on reality tv.

Or they just want to use old footage that looks better.

I would support this rule. Some people call it America's Got Singers

There are way too many singers every season. There are a ton of singing shows already and I think the singers steal the spotlight from other talents

Basically the judges vote on auditions to 'get through' for consideration, and then after the auditions are done, the audience/viewers of the show vote on who goes forward into the 'real' competition. And from there, they pick acts with the popular vote until the end.

Edit: Without question, the audition episodes are more fun. After that, the acts get help producing their performances and it kinda gets a little too 'professional.' And the viewers vote for the wrong people.

There are multiple "rounds" to the show. Auditions last multiple weeks. And then they select the people they liked and those people then compete to survive the next elimination. Each round has fewer people. The finals always have like 10 people left I think, who they knock down to 1 person in the last like 5 minutes of the show

I definitely think they pick some bad chefs on purpose because it's entertaining to watch them tank on the first services. Some of the chefs there's no way they'd ever pass if all they were doing was looking for potential winners

Exactly. ESPECIALLY ones like Hell's Kitchen where they don't even hide that the decision of who gets eliminated is completely up to the discretion of a judge(s)/producers

It's funny how when game shows were rigged in the 50s it was such a scandal that there were congressional hearings and laws passed making the rigging of game shows illegal yet when modern reality shows are rigged everybody's just like, "everybody knows that, who cares." And then people say things like Jeopardy is rigged when somebody goes on a 30 win streak cause they don't understand that while that's technically possible it's a lot less likely because the producers know damn well they're risking jail time if they pulled something like that on their show.

That's why the only reality TV show I can watch is Big Brother because they have the live feeds on 24/7ish. Hard to keep blatant rigging under wraps when you have people with loose lips on camera all day. Even then they try their hardest to pull some shit. But this is clearly way way less influence than other shows can have when the whole thing is done behind the scenes. Still, from watching the Big Brother live feeds to watching the actual show can seem like two completely different seasons within the same season.

I remember the first season of Hell Kitchen the more skilled chefs made it into the final 5.

Every season after had 1 or 2 bad chefs that somehow makes it into the final 5 and outlasts some chefs who deserve to be in the final 2.

It's pretty preposterous that the show doesn't take service history into account at elimination. "Person, you've had 11 flawless services. The only person to have this distinction. But this 12th time you undercooked a brussel sprout twice. You are not ready to be my headchef. Hey, clown over there up for elimination for the 6th time? You weren't that bad this time. That's a huge problem on Top Chef. Tom's always like "One bad dish can send you home." and "Only the final dish matters." It's such bullshit.

Nina should have won Top Chef 11, and Gregory should have won TC 12.
