Why isnt there a mass exodus of true conservatives so they can distance themselves from these fascist clowns bringing back jim crow laws and putting the 10 commandments in every classroom?

It's easier to just leave the party and act like you never associated with them, than to say "well I used to be" and be labeled XYZ when you're not.

Some are. A lot of the middle has left. NPA has grown a ton. There are some groups that have tried to denounce some if the craziness too but they just dont get any attention.

I am a small government fiscal conservative that used to vote that way but not since Obama. I switched to NPA in 2014 and have voted dem for almost all major candidates since then. Just cant get on the hate, hypocrisy and fascism train the way some others do. Its anti-American and shouldnt be tolerated. Not sure how any Republican can be ok with some of the government intrusion into major segments of life under the guise of freedom. The GOP treats its base like they are idiots and a lot of them just eat it up.

This. You always hear about how they don't agree with Trump or other extremists behind closed doors but they all fall in line anyway because at the end of the day they have no strong convictions and will do whatever they need to do in order to ensure their own position.

The people who actually have convictions--people like Trump--are all extremist because it takes conviction to hold extreme beliefs. There is no conviction in maintaining the status quo.

Correct. Even among that crowd, there's a deep realization that their politics can't win power. Or you'll see a brain dead take like "Trump was a response to the villainization of Romney."

Because they have power because of them.

I'm not saying they will never turn against the extremists, but here in the US it takes a good bit more than other countries for people to screw their head on straight.
