On the flip side, I don't think reviews actually controls people's opinions. Rather all it does is validates their already made opinions, their confirmation bias and they use the reviews for that. Either way it's not a good thing IMO.

I give this review 6/10. The number 4 is a cool number and i do like my review short and concise, but leaving off the period at the end sunk it.

I find reviews helpful when I'm on the fence about a game. I don't care about the score. What makes the reviews useful is that they usually go over what aspects they did and didn't like about the game. Sometimes the reviewer will praise things that sounds horrible to me, or criticize things that sounds amazing. But it helps me get an idea about what's in the game that I will enjoy.

I mean that's what reviews are supposed to be about. A guideline to help your inspections but I see tons of people use it for dumb shit

I went to another gaming forum and I talked about the day of 8.8 without mentioning Twilight Princess. People who completely lost and didn't know what I was talking and a bit hostile that I was "vague posting". I apologized to the community. I didn't know "8.8" would confuse the living shit out of a community of gamers. One would think that would register immediately to people who think highly of themselves.

I then made fun of them for living under a rock and/or being an under age user alert

People don't use reviews for what it's supposed to be which is to give people a guideline for their expectations. Instead they let reviews dictate their opinions for them. Or they use the reviews to validate their opinions and bias. Those are examples "dumb shit" people use reviews for. Hopefully we cleared out any confusion here

I think the only time a review ever dictated a purchase for me was when Arkham City got a perfect 10 from Game Informer - neither it nor Asylum had been on my personal radar up to that point, and it really made me perk up and get interested.

There's nothing wrong with that. I read negative reviews first because I know exactly what I want to avoid.

I think you have to be, specifically, a die hard Zelda fan to understand "8.8" without any other context. I don't really play Zelda games, so I've never heard of that before this topic

I'm hardly a die hard Zelda fan. Only Zelda games I've played and finished is LttP and OoT. It's definitely a great lore and phenomenon that happened in gaming history.
