destination is going to be a hot climate and they plan on staying at someone's house for 2-3 weeks. how should they prepare?

Pee jug

learn how to fix a flat tire

bring a battery for their phone in case they find themself in a situation where its tough to charge for a while otherwise

stick to well lit rest stops, preferably busy truck stops with lots of people

Put a few Monsters in your cooler so you can slam one down if you start to feel tired while driving.

Take a short break every like 2-3 hours to stand up.
Snacks are always good on trips.
Gas is generally cheaper outside of the city.

by having enough money or credit to fix a broken transmission or blown engine

beyond that it's just a matter of not driving while tired, staying fed and hydrated basically

oh also they should have roadside assistance like aaa

Always use the toilet when you fill up.
The desert doesn't give a fuck about you or your car
Fruit, Jerky and/or nuts along with a gallon of water in a cooler.
Blanket, flashlight
Check all the hoses, belts and tires with a professional before you go
Carry a portable battery charger.
Don't drive at night.
