If I had small kids getting ready to start school I'd either go private or home school here in Missouri. Also I'd probably look to move away from Missouri. Missouri is pretty awful these days.

I have a 2 year old daughter. We have 0 plans to ever homeschool. I'd prefer her go to a public school over private, honestly.

I was 100% public schooled, albeit in a good district, but found the education was good. I don't exactly have a frame of reference to compare with private schools but I feel like they'd just be some sort of excuse to extract money from parents.

I've privately tutored hundreds of kids from all different backgrounds, personally I do not believe the school that they receive is as important as the drive they individually have. I've seen parents pour thousands of dollars into their kids in the form of resources, programs, study groups, etc and it doesn't always help.

public education so kids can see what the real world is like. Exposure to different types of people is so important, and private school makes entitled af spoiled little brats

Oh yeah and to answer the actual question regarding home school, yeah, never in a million years would I do that. You're depriving the kid of social interaction. You need to throw your kid into the pit and let them discover how to socialize and regulate their emotions. Though I've read interesting data that shows that pre-school is detrimental to development, I guess forcing kids into an education setting is harmful to their creativity and socialization.

Also standardized testing is actual dog shit.

oh, you believe so? you said you went to a good public school district, would you feel the same way, about the 2nd part of your post if it was kinda a bad public school district? i kinda went to at least a below avg. public school district. you think that makes a big difference....etc...?

Fuck no. Homeschooled kids are generally fucking weird because surprise, going to school is actually important for socialization.

And I wouldn't do private because it's a waste of money and all the ones around here are weirdo Christian schools. Fuck no to paying for brainwashing.

I was in a bad school district from grades K-4, like a really bad one, like a kid threatened that he would shoot me bad (he didn't actually have a gun). Even then I remember there being teachers that actually gave a shit about me and the school even put me in one of those gifted programs which I think helped (I don't remember I was a shitty little kid). I feel as long as the school is not terrible to the point where kids are at physical risk it's still better than home school.

But if the school district looks like the one in S4 of The Wire, my first instinct would be to move to a better district, my second instinct would be to home school.

No, I don't have the patience, education, or training to home school. My daughter has been publicly schooled and is due to graduate this spring. Just because parents CAN home school doesn't mean they're all necessarily capable of doing it well.

I fortunately only went one year. It was more than my mother could handle so we didn't do shit all year except the final test. Which I Still aced. Was a fun year but entirety of my childhood years probably woulda made more socially awkward then I already was

Homeschooling still operates under an institution like other school systems, and it is alarmingly regressive.

My history books outright talked about Creationism, made the North out to be the aggressors during the Civil War, and did the same for MLK/Civil Rights Movement. My mom actually sat me down to basically be like "we can't use these books because this is all BS." That was in the 90s, and it's gotten even more defiant in recent years.

Couple that with the social activity that you miss out on. Even the shy and socially awkward kids are going to get the benefit of organic socialization from going to public schools as opposed to homeschooling.

Absolutely not. My cousin's were homeschooled and they have so much resentment towards my aunt for not being allowed to have a normal school life. Kids need the social aspects of school too.

Also, the people worried about the public school system should look into magnet schools. They're still public schools, but generally more specialized and challenging.

Oh I've never seen this account before, so I wouldn't have guessed that lol.

Anyway, my aunt is a very controlling person, so she wanted to have complete control over their school life. My cousin's are two sisters that are about 7 years apart. And yes, they were both homeschooled from K-12. So for the most part, their only interactions with other kids were with us, their cousins.
