i find it to be a mess hard to follow conversations

and the fact sub reddits have so many different rules it just gets confusing

often forcing you to just post in a megathread in which what ever your trying to say just gets buried so if you have a question or something well tough luck

i've been searching for support lately on different software stuff and i've found the upvoting system is pretty useful anyways. you don't get garbage replies that will be of no help at the top of the page often.

I kind of hate the format

but that dont reall make following a discussion easy

I never visit that site unless someone posts a link. It's the most godawful format that ever existed.

Also this site needs help. Why the fuck after all these years are there not avatars displayed so you can instantly recognize who's posting what? This place is so outdated. Avatars make a user so much more recognizable. I don't know who any of you fuckers are after 21 years.

yeah, it definitely does not lend itself to in depth discussion. also if a conversation gets too lengthy it nests the rest under a prompt to view the entire discussion, which i think discourages users from engaging further.

But literally every message board except this and reddit have avatars. I don't see why it would be a problem

I've never had much issue following a conversation on reddit.

Collapse a set of replies and read/open the next set.

It's laid out about as straightforward as you can make it.

I'm not too big of a fan of it either. You do see some nice conversations on smaller subs though. Big ones are just a bunch of madness and karma farming, but you could almost say the same thing about big, high traffic forums too. As already mentioned, good answers to questions are usually the top post so there's no having to dig through whole topics to find a solution. I think Reddit's system and a traditional forum have their own pros and cons.

I think the bigger problem with Reddit isn't the formatting, but the culture. So much karma whoring and just dumb posts. For example, if a game/movie/show has a character named Jim in it, expect random stupid pictures of things with the name Jim in them. Then there's the incessant fanart, which is mostly generic and just reposts. Many complain about the jokes, memes, and people trying to hard to be funny, but that happens everywhere.

just give the job to approve avatars to mods

Serious response gets downvoted, even sometimes removed

Reddit isn't for discussion.

Reddit people lie more than gamefaqs

you can be downvoted for actually providing a helpful response to someone's question.

I agree that it's laid out probably as best as you can make it for having different branching conversations.

Does it look nice? Fuck no. Is it easy to navigate conversations? Absolutely.

But here if you're talking about subject A and decide to go into subsubject B it gets mixed in with every other conversation about Subject A as well as Subsubjects C, D, E, F, G, H, and so on. CE is the one that's not formatted well. But it looks nicer.

You can collapse the clusters. So if you dont like a reply with tons of replies replying to it, or you are just done with it, you can just click the [ - ] thing and go to the next reply.

I dunno how people can talk shit about our formatting and then go use Reddit's LMAO.

Reddit is not made for conversations. You'll find it hard to follow because they are not a priority.
