How different would the DCverse be?

The only reason that rule exists is so that Batman can have recurring villains.

Even vigilantes that do kill still somehow have recurring opponents

They'd have to come up with even more contrived reasons for his villains returning. Which is why the whole "Batman should kill Joker" thing is stupid. Even if he did, Joker would just be brought back somehow. It wouldn't change anything, really.

He routinely beats the shit out of Kirk Langstrom for money.

Kirk Langstrom has no fucking money, so it's a vicious cycle.

The no killing rule served a purpose back in the day but I don't think it's realistic for someone like Batman to have a Vash the Stampede like ability at subduing opponents without ever using lethal force in the heat of the moment. Executions in cold blood are the real line he shouldn't cross.

Batman doesn't have "heat of the moment" moments. Everything is planned, and further planned. Really, he's basically a Heist movie in a superhero shape. You thought, that was enough? You fool, you didn't know about my Plan Z(a)(i).

But also: he acts like he must kill everyone if he kills anyone. Like ok....hes crazy.

A Batman who kills doesn't change anything for anyone because "killing is so vague"

Batman not having magical powers that cause people to never die when he hits them hard enough to launch them off their feet and they land on their heads wouldn't suddenly make him unable to be nice to kids

I don't even understand what it means to write a character

What if batman didn't kill any villains but made a point by killing loved ones of the villains. The villain comes home to see their spouse or child or friend gruesomely murdered with a note from batman saying 'this is on you'.

Or he knows his own limits.

He's a guy with nearly infinite resources, no accountability, a super pragmatic attitude, and a lot of inner demons. If he decides to execute his villains, he knows himself well enough that it will get easier and easier to make the choice again, and that there's barely anyone who would be able to stop him if he went too far. He does not see himself as fit enough to just "become" the system. Better to just leave that door closed.

And let's be real here. For as many times as he's literally handed them over on a silver platter, it's not batman's fault that every single justice system in his world absolutely refuses to properly handle the villains he captures. "Batman should just kill the joker-" dude, the Joker should have gotten the chair decades ago, instead of his 3,423rd stay at Arkham.

What if Batman dated the Joker's mom? Imagine if Joker came home one night, ready to vent about his day, and Batman's there, holding her hand, and he just says,"hiya sport" and winks.

Money is always the biggest evil. Instead of having a solid story and be done with it. They want to drag the whole universe out forever for it to keep making money.
