jesus wtf are they doing that it needs that much space? When Ubisoft basically remade Ancient Greece in AC Odyssey it was only like 100 GB.

Think that's bad, imagine if you bought a 1-2TB NVME SSD a year prior with the expectation that current gen single player games would average about 60-80GB and then suddenly you still have to make space for this shit all because AAA Western companies don't know how to fucking compress data onto a bluray disc. You'd be pissed as hell that investment only slightly helped with the inconvenience of it all

A lot of games really aren't too bad. EA and Activision get out of control.

Really, it's kind of getting better. Look at any cross-gen game on your current-gen console. The last-gen version is likely larger by a decent margin.

PS-750 MB
PS2- 4.5-9 GB
PS3- 20-50 GB

And now we have 4-8k assets. Better quality audio....etc etc. Why do people feel like games should stay at 60 GB or so? And the storage goes down accordingly as well. There are 2 TB SSDs for less than 200.

It's more annoyance. Not the end of the world to me, but surely they could have compressed things more or made certain components optional to download. They didn't even try to do that, though.

because professional reviews complained said having to download extra stuff was a problem and was a negative

PS5 install sizes have typically been less than ps4. And days gone, while a PS4 game, released a patch months after release that better optimize the game and cut 12-15 gb off if I remember correctly.
