which of these starter guitars do you prefer?

charcoal frost metallic w/ indian laurel fingerboard:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/5/5/AABOVBAAEaKr.jpg

black w/maple fingerboard:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/5/6/AABOVBAAEaKs.jpg

these are both starter guitars, of the same brand (fender squier affinity telecaster deluxe). i've already settled on this guitar for what i'm going to get started with.

i previously had a yamaha pacifica but things came up in my life that prevented me from really giving it the time it deserved. as a result i can play just poorly at the moment.

if you have anything extra to chime in on differences between maple and indian laurel i'm open to hearing more.

I would really encourage you to look used then. Get any practice amp on Craigslist / Facebook for $20, cord and strap tossed in with guitar, and $350 on a used guitar.

i'll have a look and see what comes up but i'm not sure i'll be tempted unless it's a stellar deal on something i can be confident is solid. i'm not making a purchase until next month so that will give me some time to do research on what i find. appreciate the advice.

Tagima makes the best guitars for the money from factory.

I see you're picking a Tele body, are you specifically wanting one with humbuckers like your example pics?

Also, go maple neck.

Cheap maple is better than a cheap rosewood alternative.

Yeah one of the pulls for me is the humbucking pickups. I also am pretty interested in the versatility of a telecaster for different sounds. Your input on the cheap rosewood is noted haha. If I do go with this guitar I will likely go maple then.

Glad to hear you've had good experiences with them. I'm leaning towards the black/maple combo out of those two now for sure.

Nice! Yeah I plan to put aside some time each day. I think this will actually be a positive addition to my life generally because I want a new hobby where I can really sense some kind of improvement over time.

Like as an example I recently picked up collecting/maintaining vinyl and while that's a nice hobby it doesn't really lend itself to challenging me in the least.

Yeah it's coming with a frontman 10g as part of a bundle, TBH the amp will probably be the first thing i upgrade though as time goes on. It runs about $80 on its own so not the greatest one out there lol.

Hopefully you can get into storage and get some of your instruments back out. I'm just excited to pick up the hobby again and see progression through practice. Looking forward to setting time aside each day to improve. Also playing is a pleasure for sure.

I'll keep this in mind! I know some people just fall in love with it and just collect different guitars to experiment on, can't say where I'll end up on this yet though.

True. I've been watching reviews all day on YouTube and a majority of them are experienced guitar players that are like I'm keeping this tele. I don't think Fender paid most of them off anyways. I think that is a bit spoiled for a starter for sure.

I started on a Squier in 7th grade up until I got a job and bought something nicer. Theres something to be said for how little you have to spend to get a serviceable guitar. I think even Ibanez are even starting to roast maple necks in the 300 range albeit with Jatoba fretboards

Guitars nowadays are dirt cheap. I see decent Gretsch guitars on sale for sub-$500 all the time and back when I first started playing that was like not a thing lol still need to get me a White Falcon whenever I have a few thousand to blow.

Guitar is one of the cheapest hobbies to have until you start collecting pedals. Then it's RIP wallet.

yea and even the cheap ones are all cut with CNC machines and everything with their assembly is so automated so the quality is pretty high. plus the factories in places like China have been doing this kind of thing for decades and have some really efficient processes.

besides some really minor fit/finish things that wont matter to 99.9% of people, the big difference between a cheap guitar and an expensive one is the pickups. but if you spend like $100 you can buy a seymour duncan or some boutique pickup and it will sound better than basically anything fender sells

I have been eyeballing this thing for awhile so I wouldnt have to dedicate a guitar for C Standard. The only thing holding me back is I dont always play super loud and if you can hear the strings of your guitar it really sounds off. That true, in your experience?
