If you are surrounded by minimum wage employee and close to mimimum wage employee friends, does this mean you are less motivated to get a really good job, as opposed to being surrounded by doctors, lawyers and CEOs, who both give you role models to emulate, and encourage you to do well?

I have friends who earn very little and friends who earn even more than me. Their value as a friend really isnt tied to what they earn at all.

No, why would it?

It holds you back because they dont make great references for growing your career. You arent getting your foot in the door somewhere good if you only have burger flipper friends. The doctors and lawyers dont necessarily motivate or encourage you anymore than the people with lower end jobs, but they are a lot more helpful to getting you to the next level.

No because their life decisions don't involve you, must've not been a strong friendship if your willing to cut off people just bc of how their salary looks

My problem wasnt that had low paying jobs but it was more geared towards their poor life decisions. Having multiple kids when neither parent can take care of themselves, try to help some of them find a job then cancel the interview when they found out they have to take a drug test, ETC. Like I cant hang out with that anymore.

No. But if you're surrounded by people doing drugs, and drinking alcohol around the clock, that's a different matter.
