They say it like its devs getting greedier, when in reality unlockable content was just as greedy since it was implemented to keep people renting the game repeatedly. Same reason games before that were made super difficult. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Eh, that's kind of like saying having a final boss and ending is greedy since it encourages you to get to the end too. Unlockables help give a sense of accomplishment, something DLC for minor things doesn't do. --- </topic> ... Copied to Clipboard!

They don't make money directly from rentals but wanted games that would be rented repeatedly as they could earn a lot of sales from purchases for rental stores. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I thought games being repetitive and unfair was the rental/ game longevity tactic That's why so many games around the NES era were hard, they wanted to emulate the arcade experience and get you to play for as long as possible ... Copied to Clipboard!

Trial and error gameplay especially where things you couldn't possibly have predicted without having played it and got hit by it beforehand. I don't remember rental stores really having multiple copies of the same game.
