its really funny that every time stuff like this comes out a bunch of horrible internet slobs have to pretend to care about random hyper specific history shit for like a week until the culture war drama dies down. like you know 95% of people who are enraged by this havent spared a thought about history since high school and then all of a sudden black cleopatra comes out and they're making videos with them wearing a nemes and calling for the river gods to destroy the sjws

I just wanted to entertain with a schizophrenic analysis of Gundam Hathaway, I didn't know there would be a bandwagon

I just think it'd be nice if there was more education in history in general. the black cleopatra thing (despite her being greek) isn't the egregious thing in itself, it's more what people say along with it. like I've seen otherwise well-meaning people defend it by saying egypt is in africa, as in being on a land mass makes you a skin color

you could say the same about how nazis think all civlizations were started by white people, how republicans think santa and jesus were white, and so on. historical illiteracy is a big issue but I guess it's not really a pressing one

I'm not convinced there is solid evidence of Jesus. The only non biblical records I've ever seen are just people mentioning that people believe he existed. Basically just Romans commenting that Christianity is a thing. But I have seen nothing that proves Jesus existed

But if he did exist he'd look like an Arab probably
You can't really prove Homer was real either

Yeah I have heard that. But at least people don't make magical claims of Homer. There isn't anything fantastical about Homer if he existed. So there isn't really any motive in trying to fake his story

You don't think planning out the entire epic is fantastical?

Whether or not Homer exists, coming up with a fictional story is fantastical now? Are movie writers gods?

He was a good writer. But it's not a super human ability. He was just a man. He didn't walk on water or fly or come back from the dead

there is general agreement but there is actually zero historical evidence that Jesus existed
The fact that it isn't some legend that sprung up hundreds to thousands of years later is evidence, as the story of a Jewish man named Jesus who was crucified in Jerusalem on behest of the Roman authority of the city could simply be contradicted by everyone who lived there at the time. I know we're supposed to think ancient peoples were morons, but really. It's a preposterous occam's razor reversion to doubt the existence of a dudebro religious nutter who got so bothersome to the authorities of the time that they got rid of him. rather people at the time invented a contemporary story that that totes did happen, for reals, and decided to believe in it as world-view shaping religious doctrine.

I wondered briefly if it was historically accurate or not when I heard some people claiming it wasn't but then I read another thing claiming her genealogy and appearance are actually in question so I decided I didn't actually care.
