Idk, with every other post TheNextLink has made in this topic, they certainly would fit the bill of someone suffering from depression.

This isn't just "the idea of relationships just isn't for me". It's more like, "I have no energy or interests in things 'normal' people have and I don't ever leave the house and am largely bitter about it."

to be honest, parents should just accept that they're not going to be flying with their young child except for emergencies. you get to drive for a while. family gets to come to you.

if it is an emergency and your kid can't calm down, you should feel apologetic for your kid disturbing others - doesn't matter if it's not your fault

Guy was in the right tbh. Shut the damn baby up or stop bringing your kids on flights. If you're in a position where you have to bring your baby on a flight with you, you probably shouldn't have kids/are a failure parent.

Why?

because typically you want to keep your baby on a calm and steady routine, first of all

secondly because airports/planes are germ-ridden cesspools

thirdly because they're public spaces and your baby might pitch a fit at any minute

I dunno man. I think being expected to be a shut-in for a year or two (or more if you have more than one kid) is a hell of a lot more of an inconvenience than dealing with a crying baby you have no responsibility over for 45 minutes.

I didn't say stay inside all day. I said don't fly if you don't have to. If family is far, fly them to where you are. Drive if they're close. Flying is complicated/stressful enough if I didn't have my child with me.

Also yes, I did just do the same thing every day for about the first three years of my kid's life. Occasional day trips, but pretty rigid routine otherwise. It's part of being a parent.

Ah yes lets all buy tickets for all of our family and friends who live interstate or in another country. That's a lot more convenient for everyone involved especially if it is a large number of people.

I flew with my 3 year old daughter and 8 month old daughter a few weeks ago and it was completely fine. If you can't deal with it nobody is forcing you.

It most certainly does not have to be no. My toddler loves travelling and going places. Having a stable routine does not mean you can't do anything varied within that routine.

I think airplanes are a particularly volatile environment to deal with a crying baby because the entire experience is generally uncomfortable to begin with. You pay pretty steep prices to go through tight ass security measures, stand in a line for an hour, bump and nudge your way to a seat that's too small, wait for everyone else to do the same while you sit there trying your damndest to not bump elbows or knees with the people next to you, you're probably hungry and/or thirsty, and all you can do is try to fall asleep or play a game on your phone for the next few hours.

Top that off with a delay while on board and a crying child and it's definitely not a fun experience.

Of course, that doesn't justify the man's reaction. I'd probably be on edge during and shortly after an event like that, but I wouldn't yell at the child or their parents. That's just stupid >_>

I wont understand this stance ever. Babies should be the burden of the parents. Solely. It's selfish to put that shit on everyone surrounding them. ESPECIALLY in a crowed location like a flight on a plane. A plane ride is a luxury, full stop. There is zero excuse to subject all passengers to that bullshit. Fucking drive where you need to go. Got to go out of country? Luxury expense without question. Those parents don't need to be there, much less the infant. Take your vacation trip five years down the road.
