Viral videos show large groups of people disrupting traffic, dancing on cars and getting involved in fights.

Police said two people were shot late Saturday night.

Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson's statement is grabbing national headlines, saying in part we should not demonize the youth, who were a part of it.

"When I came back, this whole area was lined with, this street was blocked off by a wall of police up the next block," witness David Clark said.

The groups were seen running around, jumping on cars and CTA buses and weaving in and out of oncoming traffic.

Johnson called the activity "unacceptable," but went on to say "it is not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved of opportunities in their own communities."

Don't worry... the new mayor has already come out and told people not to demonize the mob.

Condemning the particular act(and those who participated), without demonizing an entire group of people, is exactly the response id want my mayor to take, especially given how thirsty this country is to have an excuse for their not so veiled racist beliefs

Isn't not holding people personally and legally responsible for their bad, dangerous and illegal behavior not going to teach them anything good? They are just going to lash out further, blame and hurt other people, even those whose have had nothing to do with their lot in life, for their misfortune, or even their dissatisfaction with their lives. It's only going to make them into morally bankrupt, entitled people.

I mean sure but it's not like the legal system does any of that.

How much of their bad, dangerous and illegal behavior has Donald Trump been held too? or Elon Musk?

How many dudes are sent to prison for bullshit like pot or petty theft and walk out a year later as a hardened criminal?

Don't get me wrong, people should be held accountable and met with scorn for assaulting others in the street obiously but I feel the high horse argument here doesn't work when the legal system and society is completely broken.

Do you think these thugs lives will turn around and they'll become good law abiding people if they go to prison for a year? Be honest.
