I can tell myself it's because of some superiority in paper books, but mainly I just like being able to point to them on a shelf.

I always thought the E-Reader was just too gimmicky. And in 2023 finding cards for it has to be almost impossible.

This is funny because while most people would assume I was talking about a device to read books, you're posting as if this topic refers to the Game Boy Advance peripheral of the same name.

My thought was the GBA e-Reader

It's good if space is an issue I guess, but I mainly don't use one because it's not good for your eyes.

I own more GBA e-readers than book e-readers

How will someone know how learned and sophisticated I am if they don't see my shelves lined with manga?

i half way relate. i have lossless streaming via alac on apple music but i still buy vinyl because it's nice to see physical copies on a shelf, also they can be eye candy depending on the pressing and make a decent decoration if you have wall mounts. of course i still put them on the turntable, so it's not like they're gathering dust. i think it also helps artists way more to buy physical copies of their work.

but basically they make a great conversation starter and can be easily pointed at, similar to books i suppose. but it's half way there because i'm still using that sweet lossless streaming, similar to if you had an ereader in addition to your collection i suppose.

For real though, I get it. I mostly consume most my books via audiobook. But I still end up getting physical copies just to put in my bookshelf.

There is something appealing about seeing a room full of books. To me, I feel like a dragon hoarding its treasures. They are physical, and they are mine. Scrolling through a tablet with a bunch of jpegs of the book cover next to the title that says "Owned" doesn't quite feel as right.

I only bought one once I realized how much easier it is to use pdfs when running table top rpgs.

While I do enjoy a room filled with books, I don't exactly have the space in my house for that.

If you get one with an e-ink screen rather than just using a normal tablet it is no harder on your eyes than reading a real book.
