It used to be easy. Now there is so much competition that I am about ready to give up and go live with my parents. I can pay the rent. I have great rental history. My credit score is almost 750. But why dont I get the house? Because there are 70-200 people applying and the landlords always want to put a family with kids in on priority.

This entire rental thing needs to crumble and we need houses that young people can actually afford. Im so frustrated with this. This is ALL happening because of those fucking red states trying to forcefully go back to the dark ages. All these red state refugees (cant even blame them) are making it to where blue state people are getting forced out of their cities.

I agree. Theyre literally taking a home that someone would actually want to BUY, taking it off the market and charging $2,000/month to rent it. For profit. So they screw someone else out of being a comfortable homeowner and instead force someone to pay 120% of their paycheck to live.

Young adults without kids wreck a lot more shit than kids. And they throw house parties. And parents are more responsible about paying rent and have more stable income.

Even after getting a house it's bs. We got in just in time to lock in a decent interest rate, and was about the same monthly payments as renting was, but because of property tax the mortgage went up about 50% after the first year. The point of getting out of renting was to avoid random price hikes -_-

My brother and I are 34 and 37 and any guests we would have had would have been in our age group. We dont drink or have college parties and we take extremely good care of any property that we are fortunate enough to rent.

Little kids are disgusting and their parents are usually too busy to notice maintenance issues that we would have quickly caught. To be honest, I wasnt dead set on this house, but I can honestly say that the landlords investment would have been better taken care of if they hadnt rented on priority to kids.

This is a strange conspiracy and not true at all. By and large people are moving out of NY and CA and into FL and TX.

Prices have gone up basically everywhere worth living. A lot of that might have to do with investment corporations which I read have been buying 25% of homes on the market. There can be other strong local factors such as tech work boom where these workers with higher wages are willing to pay more and outbid the locals, driving up prices.

$100 a month and it increased your mortgage by 50%? You had a $200 a month mortgage?
That doesn't make sense.

Dude, same here. You have no privacy and you cant even play an acoustic guitar without the whole apartment block hearing and complaining.

Society honestly sodomized our generation. We should be homeowners, but housing became a profit-based free for all before we were old enough to drive and they decided to stop paying people fairly when we got into the workforce. Now a starter house costs a half million dollars and they want us all making $25,000/year which is barely enough to cover rent.

It was extremely frustrating trying to rent a house a few years back. Sometimes someone would apply before anyone even view the house, but others wanted to wait until they had a number of viewings and applications. And landlords run away shrieking if they hear you have pets.

I'm lucky that I'm getting a good deal on my place and the landlord isn't a greedy scumbag like most. I probably couldn't afford to live on my own these days if I wasn't getting a good deal.

Idk if you're being intentionally silly but the monthly mortgage payments went from 2400 (which was already mortgage+taxes) to 3600 per month, which is a 50% overall increase. Doesn't seem that difficult to comprehend.

Trying to claim property taxes increased by $1200/month? On a house that was cheap enough to buy for a $2400/mo mortgage?

If true, there is more to the story.

I Lived with relatives for a few years in order to save enough for a down payment on my first house.

It sucks but that's really the only option there is if you want to save enough in a reasonable time span to compete in this market.

Thats what Im considering, too. What percentage of the homes value is the down payment these days? I might not have much money, but I do have an excellent credit score so maybe that can help.

Average is 5-20%. The more you put down the better your interest rate. When you're in a competitive market though you're likely need alot more to compete.

But if you're losing out to family's then I'd recommend looking for smaller 2 bed homes. As most family probably aren't interested in ones that small.

Spend some time figuring out how to make more than minimum wage. Its a minimum wage, you shouldnt be satisfied with it.

Sure, and then they'd just build more condos for the rich (albeit with toxic fumes).

Or people could build their own homes if it weren't for all the bureaucratic b.s. that goes into getting the permits, zoning, environmental studies, etc.
