13 evidently, done by both the 87 Brewers and 82 Braves.

In 2018, the Mets started the season on a 12-1 run.

I mean even the 87 Brewers only finished 91-71 and the 82 Braves finished 89-73. Hell the Brewers were actually under .500 at Game 89 (44-45) and the Braves were under .500 over the course of the second half of the season.

Kind of interesting that looking this good this early might actually be a bad thing.

In the modern era. If you count old timey baseball pre-MLB, the 1884 Maroons started 20-0.

going into the season this was projected to be a p good team, and almost every projection system undervalues the Rays as is

I mean that's fair, but it's pretty wild that of the 6 teams to start a season at least 10-0 previously (obviously not counting the Rays yet), 3 of them ended up missing the postseason entirely and only 1 even made the World Series (the 55 Dodgers, the first team to even start a season 10-0, and which they won).

Also the 03 Royals are the only other team to even start a season 9-0 in the Wild Card era, and they also didn't even make the playoffs in the end lol.

What's even sadder about that Brewers team is that they were 20-1 at one point, iirc. I remember looking at the standing and thinking wtf?

the difference between those 80s and teams and the 2023 rays is analytics probably. this team is gonna be way more reliable and likely to succeed bc of that.

anyway rays were already projected for 85-88 wins and will probably glide past 90. regression to the mean is coming but i mean having this kind of win streak to start the year (or anywhere in the season) is a tremendous boost. hopefully springs isnt out too long bc it looked like he was on his way to becoming an ace.

And anytime these bums are good they fail to win it. Just gets frustrating to root for them so thats part of the reason I just dont engage with baseball anymore. Not to mention the good players get traded after a few years because the team is so poor

The main thing the Rays have going for them is they're a very well-run organization. Like despite the payroll, they clearly have a good team and have been consistently good for a while. Having a cheap owner is unfortunate, but they're still way better off than perennial losers like the Pirates or A's.

not sure if youre aware of this but baseball is incredibly random and luck based and the best you can really hope for is that you make the playoffs and things fall your way

The Rays season began just 2 weeks ago, and they already have a 4.5 game lead in their division. Against teams that are 8-4. Next biggest divisional lead of any teams is the Braves (2 games ahead of the Mets).

Hell, 2 weeks into the season and the Rays have an 8 game lead over a team in their division. Theyll come back to Earth a bit eventually, but this shit is crazy. Good for them.

baseball is just a weird thing, and random teams go on streaks usually, plenty of times not even good ones. it's just not as common to begin a season. i dunno about those 80's teams but that Royals team i can guarantee was not projected to be good, this Rays team was

If they sweep the Yankees or Jays then I will really pay attention. Those are the big 3 fish in a loaded AL East.
