for those that dont know tama was a cat who was made station master of a railstation about to be closed and her presence went viral online and ppl started to visit the station to see tama

when she died over 3000 ppl attended her funeral and she is inshrined as a shinto goddess

Thats kind of awesome. Not only did the cat save what is probably a vital source of public transportation for that community, it provided a new source of income for the residents in the form of tourism.
