I don't know how many of them you've met to not know this, but children are dumb as fuck.

I wouldn't say they are unintelligent. Unfortunately, evolution hasn't been taught properly in schools and there are tons of misconceptions about it. Even people who do believe in don't fully understand how it really works.

Why do we still use the terms "believe in evolution"? or "believe in climate change"?

science isn't a deity you can choose to believe in or not.

you either understand evolution or you don't.

Believe
1. accept (something) as true; feel sure of the truth of.

That's why.

Meh, I suppose so.

I believe 2 + 2 = 4.
Although maybe there is a reality where that isnt true.

Or maybe there is some yet to be discovered mathematical principle that will disprove that 2+2=4. I mean, it seems obvious there isn't, but that is the proper mindset.

People can be geniuses in one area of expertise, and complete morons in another.

I will say this, it's dumb to not believe in evolution.

I view those types no different from the types that try to find equivocation in science and believing in religion. The ones that try to claim they are both about faith. Science is not about faith, and people who argue this for me is like talking to a flat earther.

The very definition of science is either observing or testing something to verify a phenomena in concrete and/or replicable terms.

Theory of the world says x is true, but not y. It also says/implies a whole lot of other things. I set up an experiment and find no evidence for y, but robust evidence for x.

Do we declare theory of the world correct, 100% truth? Or has this evidence just shifted our belief in theory of the world to be more positive?

I guess I should say that I never really learned how evolution actually functions (I understand how animal adaptations operate but how those become permanent traits of a species over several generations while species without said adaptive changes will gradually die out is somewhat lost on me).

It's not like a species just "decides" to survive better than ones that are "stubborn" and want to stay the same.

Oversimplification version, a few factors such as natural selection, natural tolerance, darwism awards, and birth defect traits that just became permanent as hundreds of years goes on.

Again I'm vastly oversimplifying it.

Take for example lactose intolerance.

I recognize the concept isn't something that can be summarized in a paragraph or even a page so I know there's got to be more than anyone can actually say on the subject without turning it into a sizable discourse.

I don't think discourse is needed to begin with. One doesn't particularly need to know why the earth is not flat on a scientific level to not rum around saying its flat because the idea blows their mind.

Personally I wouldn't sit down a debate such a person more than 5 minutes. I'm not going to get anywhere with someone that far gone from reality.

Like it's okay to not understand something, and to fully admit you don't understand why a phenomenon happens. But unfortunately humans have this knack for making up stories to explain events they lack an explanation for. Many psychologically must have an explanation for a phenomenon or they will create one. Which those types, I just cant give more than 5 minutes of attention to IRL. Online my tolerance is slightly higher because I can tone them out hours or a day, but even then I got to be real bored to entertain it.

It's like my sister who is a hard believer of astrology, and the inconsistent belief system of astrology.

I mean, I'd say they're willfully blocking some key piece of information from their brain, or at the very least having trouble reconciling it with whatever beliefs they had previously ingrained. But to say they are actually dumb or unintelligent might not be totally fair. It just depends.
