The movie was literally not true to the source material. If it were, Cranky would have know Mario, as would Bowser since Yoshi Island is canonically first.

pretty sure yoshi's island is not canon at all. at least insofar as canon matters to the mario series.

upon closer examination, i suppose it is true that the only direct reference to our world in a Mario game's backstory simply says "New York", and it could mean a different part of the city or even an entirely different city within the state of new york.

Is that in the game or in like a manual? Because even the latter I wouldn't take as gospel overall.

Really the Mario lore doesn't make any sense and doesn't matter. Each story and game is its own thing (unless directly stated otherwise) like a Mickey cartoon.

Wait.....so women in movies should not be portrayed as powerful or competent because it gives young girls the wrong impression of what they can achieve in the world and will lead them to try to do things that will get them hurt, raped or killed.

But it's perfectly okay to portray male leads in this manner because that won't lead young boys to think that they can achieve these things and potentially hurt or kill themselves because what males leads in movies like this do is always factually possible and achievable by all men?

It's a damn Mario Brothers movie. Let kids imaginations run wild. Teaching kids limitations and having realistic understanding of what is possible is the responsibility of the parents not the movies. Movies are supposed to be where both kids and adults can let go of reality and let their imaginations run wild. Smdh. Really what is this society coming to?

Now that the movie is a massive success (despite poor critic reviews) they've flipped to "oh, the movie isn't woke and only serves as proof that Americans are sick of wokeness. Critics hate it because it isn't woke"

...and really, I just love that chick who's all "Give me helpless Peach! If girls are taught to be strong and independent they'll just go out and get raped."
