HBO Discovery I feel rolls off the tongue better. Either is better than fucking Max though.

People who subscribed specifically to discovery plus will not like this. The appeal was that discovery plus was very cheap but had a niche library for people into reality TV and documentary stuff

Discovery plus is basically now going for like 7 bucks a month or whatever it was, to 16

They even literally have streaming cable.

Hulu Live
Fubo
Sling TV
YouTube TV

All live TV streaming services. Basically the same as old fashioned cable, but all digital and over the internet. I think their main use these days is live sports. You still kinda need cable for that usually. And traditional cable is fading. In my region the major cable company already ended traditional service a year ago. Everyone is forced to go streaming now

That was the point I was trying to make.

People were cutting the cord because streaming was a cheaper option. But then it splintered so many times that in order to get everything you originally got with a cable/internet package, you end up paying the same amount.

So I'm not "going to bat" for anyone. Just pointing out the costs basically being the same if you were to try to mirror what the average cable package offers.

its not a screw up. Its by design.

the whole WB + HBO purchase thing was part of the conservative holy culture war. They just couldnt let millennials have cool TV shows about dragons, Italian mafia, millionaire dramas and movie star bro comedies. And how dare they have a black bat girl? Destroy the movie before its out!

zaslav and discovery have said over and over they want to have hbo cater more to the real American (40+, white, rural) demographic and less to the millennial heathens

its super weird to see Laura Coates talk about a mass shooting or the Ukraine war and suddenly she talks for 20 minutes about March fucking madness.

i am starting to think the sports stuff is basically a form of social control from the right

Same.

I have Hulu Live and Netflix, so that also gets me Disney+ and ESPN+.

My Bro in Law works for Verizon, so he gets his cable at a deep discount. He uses my Netflix/Disney, I use his HBO Max and Peacock.

I then use my other Bro in Laws Apple TV

But I didn't watch 80% of the channels I got when I paid for cable in the first place. I get way more things that I care about just paying $40 for multiple services which is still under half of what I paid for cable

Then you're not the person I'm talking about. I'm talking about the people that cut the cord to save money, then got Sling TV, Netflix, Hulu/Disney, Peacock, Apple, and HBOMax. Combine that with a $70 internet package, and now they're paying more than they originally paid for a Cable/Internet combo package.

I cut the cord about 4 years ago, and like I said above, only pay for Hulu Live, Netflix and an Internet package.

I'm paying about $70 less a month than I was for cable, and haven't missed anything.
