"Pro-life" is an extremely misleading way to spin "anti-abortion". Dressing a word with prettier imagery doesn't make it better.

From one of the Thor movies: "don't say slaves, I don't like that word. Say prisoners with jobs." Or something like that.

Christians donate more to charity and the needy than non religious people. I know the angle you're using, pro life people care about the fetus then when they're actually born it's all boot straps.

But that's not really true. Lots of hospitals were founded by Christians, that's why they have names like Lutheran or they're named after a Saint. Soup kitchens, the old Christian Children's Fund, salvation army, food drives, clothing donations. "Pro life" people do a lot to help others in their community *and around the world.

Pro life beliefs come from biblical teachings about sexual morality and the sanctity of life. Like what's the ultimate birth control? Abstinence. It's cliche now but there are very well thought out stances regarding sex that are based on morals, ethics, and principles. They just aren't articulated that often because Christianity has lost relevance with many young people.

Distaste for social welfare isn't just because some don't care. I'm sure some pro lifers don't care but many do. However they may not believe the government is the best institution to implement these programs due to the inefficiency and corruption that comes with spending other people's money.
christians donate more to charity than non religious people? where did you get this info?

The average Christian is taught to help the poor and needy personally, whereas secular people and atheists are more likely to vote for the government to provide services.

My overall point isnt to argue who does more, it's to prove that pro lifers do a lot of charity and volunteer work and that user genuinely isn't aware of it.

There are multiple other links but they are from christian organizations so I didn't think you'd trust them.

It's common knowledge tbh, google it if you need a source.

Being charitable isn't an excuse for having anti-human rights view points though, bringing it up is a red herring way of misdirecting the argument.

Pretty much, it's a remarkably transparent attempt to deflect.

i know a number of people who are politically pro-choice because medical matters are not the state's business, but with nuanced perspectives that would implicitly qualify them as pro-life because socioeconomic and medical matters are not a black-and-white issue

Ye, great post, I agree with almost all of your pts, I also find it kinda hard to believe that the religious do donate more to charity overall, than the non religious

Read the post again. They give more to standard charities as well. They volunteer more too. You also seem to not understand that includes all christians, including black and Latinos who are more religious on average than whites. So there goes another one of your rambling points.

You have a really distorted and ugly world view, and yet you're the type of guy to talk about how much hatred is on the "other side".

If you don't factor in atheist billionaire philanthropists like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett the discrepancy is even more severe.

No, but I also dont think theyre being honest with themselves.

Most people who purport to be Pro-Life only do so because their religion of choice tells them to. In their minds, they know that a vast majority of abortions are performed before the fetus begins to resemble anything wed consider a person. They know that the other (vast minority of) abortions are largely performed because they are either medically necessary or because the recipient was held back (by people like them) from getting an abortion earlier in the pregnancy. They know that outlawing abortions wont stop them and will just make them more dangerous. They know that access to abortions, in general, is a social good.

They want to say that theyre pro-life because it makes them feel morally superior, while also not letting the issue affect their lives in any meaningful way but, unfortunately for them, their position necessitates the belief that millions of babies are being legally murdered every year. Their response to this mass infanticide? The bare-minimum: half-hearted discussion/debate/bible-thumping and pushing for anti-abortion laws they know wont solve anything.

If they really believed, they would take more serious action (For the record, Im very glad they dont, but that doesnt change the fact that they would).

As someone who was actually forced to go to church growing up. Giving to the homeless, charity is seen as the same as giving to God. Yes Christians donate a lot to church but it is not seen as the only avenue for donation.

I remember how my dad used to force me to give 10% of ALL my money I got as a poor kid. Church was such a waste of time and money lol.
