Following days of speculation, Insider Gaming can report that theres a new PlayStation Handheld in development.

Codenamed the Q Lite, the next PlayStation handheld is the next piece of Sony hardware that aims to be yet another piece of hardware that requires the PlayStation 5. Insider Gaming understands that the Q Lite is not a cloud-streaming device, but instead uses Remote Play with the PlayStation 5 A feature the console giant has been pushing these past couple of weeks.

Sporting adaptive streaming up to 1080p and 60FPS, the new device will require constant connectivity to the internet.

As for the consoles physical features, early prototypes show the console will look a lot like a PlayStation 5 controller, but with a massive 8-inch LCD touchscreen in the center. The device sports adaptive triggers for haptic feedback and will include what you would come to expect from a handheld Volume buttons, speakers, an audio input jack, etc.

Insider Gaming understands that the Q Lite is in its QA phase and is scheduled to release before the PlayStation 5 Pro and after the Detachable Disc Drive PS5.

Uhh cmon I just want to play ps3 games without the cloud stuff. The input lag is bothersome to me outside of the 3rd person triple aaa cinematic action adventure stuff (i can play those games with game mode OFF on my TV which increases input lag several fold).

its not appealing. riddled with latency issues, and if you watch a long cutscene then you get DCed in the middle of the cutscene for inactivity. who wants to press the jump button and wait 2 seconds for the character to jump?

Honestly, theyre batting .500 - the Vita undersold even the Wii U, but the PSP outsold the 3DS.

Supposedly, due to how the PS3 was made, it's impossible for PS3 games to be made available on the PS4 or PS5 without the cloud.

I have a handheld that plays my backups of PS1 and a lot of PS2. I can stream using the PS app any games they have streamable or just run games off my PS5 itself.

Dunno if I need another handheld. I'll see what it's all about at least.

Were Sony to make one that's physically backwards-compatible with PSP and Vita, and uses actual micro-SD cards instead of some proprietary/Sony format, I'd buy two.

Cloud-based is a pretty reckless decision for a handheld, unless you only want to play it at home where you (presumably) have a stable WiFi.

And if you're not taking your portable system out of the house then it makes it pretty redundant.

Constant connectivity to internet is so stupid. The best thing about handhelds is playing them while riding a train, light rail or taking a rider share service. This eliminates that option.
